For Iowans struggling with behavioral health concerns, one of the greatest challenges is knowing how to find help. Since last summer, our Behavioral Health Services team has been working to close the gap between Iowans and the support they need.

System navigation services are free and open to all Iowans, regardless of income or insurance. Our Behavioral Health Services team connects Iowans with options and information, including referral to mental health providers, openings in psychiatric care facilities, information about substance use or addiction management programs, or access to community services to address housing needs or financial concerns.

Housing insecurity is the second most common concern among Iowans reaching out to our System Navigation team—right after mental health.

"Most of these issues are related to each other. In order for an individual’s issue to be positively resolved or improved, we have to look at the comprehensive picture. That is why our system navigators across the state work to address an array of issues that go beyond mental health and behavioral services."
— Abbey Ferenzi, Senior Director of Behavioral Health Services at the Iowa PCA
