What is intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting is the practice of eating three meals per day (without snacking between those meals) progressing to two meals per day without snacking. Eventually, you will get down to one meal per day, 1-3 days per week.
Most importantly, these meals should be low-carb with moderate amounts of protein and a diverse array of vegetables.
The goal of intermittent fasting is autophagy. Autophagy means "Self Eating" and refers to a state of the body where it is consuming cancer cells, precursors to cancer cells, and denatured proteins.
Diabetics should check with their healthcare provider before attempting this program.
For non-diabetics, this method of eating will not only allow you to lose weight (or maintain weight), but will actually increase alertness and improve the way you feel.

Dear patients and friends,
I want to let you know that because our office is considered an essential service, I am remaining open during my normal office hours.
As always, I treat neck and back pain, hip, knee, foot pain, as well as problems with the shoulder and elbows, tension and migraine headaches, etc.
By staying open and being able to treat a host of musculoskeletal problems, we prevent some of the overflow that would otherwise have to go to the hospitals, emergency rooms or medical clinics.
As always, please take care and follow the Coronavirus guidelines for America.

Thank you,
Doctor David Hammans

Health tip for exercise: Don't overlook the value of your own home as an alternative for the gym.
For example:
-Washing your house.
-Prepping and painting your house.
-Washing your cars by hand.
-Mowing your yard with a push mower, and not self-propelled.
-Walking the steps in your two-story or split-level home.
-Gardening.
-Shoveling snow.
This list is only the beginning, and is limited only by your imagination. While you're out there, throw in some push-ups, pull ups and squats.

Health tip - As a reminder: To help prevent upper respiratory tract infections such as the flu, increase your vitamin C intake, drink 16 ounces of distilled water each day with a full squeezed lemon, and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar - getting it down any way you can.

For those of you who like a glass of wine or a cold beer - remember what the research suggests. One to two drinks per day may add up to 5 years to your life. Going over 2 may shorten your life by the same. Drinking excessively can shorten it far more.

Health tip - To help prevent illness during the flu and cold season, sip a glass of distilled water with a fresh squeezed lemon each day.
