💪✨ Advocacy in Action ✨💪

Our administrative assistant, Diane, and administrator, Ashley, were proud to join NARA - The National Association of Rehabilitation Providers & Agencies in shaping comments for the CMS Medicare Advantage Proposed Rule this week.

When providers use their voices, we help protect access, equity, and quality in healthcare. Advocacy isn’t optional—it’s essential to ensuring the people we serve continue to receive the care they deserve. Together, we’re helping shape a stronger, more accessible future for healthcare.

🌈 Creative Emotional Regulation in Action!

Emotional regulation can feel overwhelming, but our occupational therapist, Bri made it accessible and empowering by combining education with play.

✔ Explored emotional states
✔ Identified individualized cues for each state
✔ Reinforced learning using UNO, pairing each card color with a coping skill or emotional signal

This playful strategy helps increase insight, build coping tools, and strengthen emotional confidence.

Occupational therapy can be both effective and fun — and this session was a great example of that!

🙌 How Did We Help This Week? 🙌

This week, our occupational therapist Haylee helped an individual take meaningful steps toward greater independence and confidence.

They were experiencing difficulty with tasks like holding a toothbrush and buttoning clothing due to limited hand strength. Haylee introduced adaptive tools—like built-up handles and a button hook—that made these everyday activities easier, more comfortable, and achievable.

✨ With the right support and the right tools, independence grows.
✨ Small adaptations can create big wins.

We’re proud to walk alongside the individuals we serve as they build skills, strength, and self-reliance. 💙

🌟 How Occupational Therapy Can Help 🌟

Did you know that everyday tasks like picking something up from the floor or reaching into a cupboard can become difficult—or even unsafe—after an injury, surgery, or change in mobility?

👩‍⚕️ Occupational therapy professionals help people stay independent by improving strength, flexibility, balance, and body mechanics needed for bending and reaching.
💡 We also teach practical strategies and adaptive techniques to make daily activities safer and more comfortable.
🧰 From modifying your environment to recommending helpful tools, OT meets you where you are and helps you move with confidence.

✨ Whether you’re getting back to your routines or maintaining independence at home, OT is here to support every reach, lift, and bend along the way!

NEWS RELEASE: Optimae LifeServices supports food banks in its service area with $30,000 donation

Optimae LifeServices announced today it is donating $30,000 to be distributed among the four Feeding America food banks located within the geographic footprint where its service regions are located.

The monetary donation will assist in the storage and distribution of food resources as the food banks support community food pantries across Iowa.

The food banks receiving the donations include Food Bank of Iowa, HACAP Food Reservoir, Northeast Iowa Food Bank and River Bend Food Bank.

“In keeping with our brand promise to be at the side and on the side of our customers, colleagues and communities, Optimae is donating these funds to the food banks in our service footprint to lessen the burden the delay in SNAP benefits will cause many Iowans, including those we provide services to and those who work with us,” said William “Bill” Dodds, chair of the board of directors at Optimae LifeServices.

The donation reflects Optimae’s long history of supporting the Iowa communities where its employees live and provide support, and is in addition to Optimae's annual menstrual health drive (which, since its launch in 2021, has contributed the equivalent of $20,000 in menstrual products) and foodstuff donations that local offices make throughout the year to their local food pantries — as well as free lunches at Optimae’s Recovery and Resource Centers (administered by its Behavioral Health division) and volunteer meal preparation in partnership with various community outreach programs.

In Feeding America's latest annual Map the Meal Gap study of food insecurity, released in May 2025 and based on 2023 data, the organization reported that 12% of Iowans ( 1 in 8 ) and 16.6% of Iowa children ( 1 in 6 ) face food insecurity. All 99 Iowa counties saw an increase in food insecurity in the latest report.
