We are honored to recognize Dr. Kory Zimney as the 2026 recipient of the Olive C. Farr Distinguished Service Award! 🏆

This prestigious recognition was awarded during our spring conference for his exceptional service and leadership. Kory served as APTA Iowa’s Vice President/President-Elect and President from 2019–2023, during which time he was deeply engaged in advancing the profession. He played a key role on the COVID Task Force, worked to stop implementation of the PTA differential by a commercial payer, presented on pain neuroscience education and therapeutic alliance, revived the spring conference poster session, and served as a Chapter delegate.

His dedication has been recognized nationally and locally through numerous honors, including APTA’s Lucy Blair Service Award (2025) and multiple distinguished reviewer and service awards.

Although Kory was unable to attend the conference, we are proud to celebrate his lasting impact and present him with the 2026 Olive C. Farr Distinguished Service Award.

Congratulations to SDPT's Sara Haller & Allie Poston, Class of 2026, on receiving the Olive C. Farr Scholarship! This prestigious award reflects your academic excellence, leadership qualities, and promise as a future physical therapy professional. Named in honor of Olive C. Farr, PT, whose legacy continues to support PT and PTA students across Iowa, this recognition is truly well deserved. We are proud of your accomplishments and excited to see all that lies ahead for you.

The Iowa Physical Therapy Foundation established an annual physical therapist student scholarship in 1983. An annual physical therapist assistant student scholarship was established by the IPTF in 1995 which was initially funded by a contribution from physical therapists Steven and Susan Bell. In 2010 the IPTF increased these awards so that each year four physical therapist student scholarships and one physical therapist assistant student scholarship are awarded. The scholarships are made possible by a bequest to the Foundation from Olive C. Farr, PT, the first director of the physical therapy education program at the University of Iowa.

The scholarship is awarded to student members of the American Physical Therapy Association enrolled in accredited Iowa PT/PTA education programs who have concluded the first year of their accredited entry-level Iowa program. Award of the scholarships will be based on demonstrated scholarship, potential for professional contributions and leadership qualities.
