Healing blessings on this Winter Solstice. This marks the first day of Winter, and in Qigong 5 element theory, the transition to the Water element. It is also the day of highest Yin energy. ☯️
If Yin is at its highest, Yang is at its lowest, so we need to protect it to avoid burning that energy out so we can slowly build it up to have a healthy balance for Spring. There are several escape points for Yang, so it’s important to protect these when we go out by wearing a hat, scarf, gloves, and boots so these areas stay warm. Also keep the torso warm with a coat or vest.
We also protect Yang by keeping our exercise moderate, such as walking, so we give it enough energy to help it build, but not so much that it burns out. The same applies to food. Warming spices like ginger are good to support Yang, but hot chilis can burn it out. It’s a good time for nourishing, warm foods and beverages, like soups and hot tea.
High Yin provides an energy that supports going within. It’s a good time for meditation, journaling, and rest. Nature gives us clues, like plants sending energy down to their roots, and animals hibernating.
In 5 element theory, the elements are connected to an energy system, healing color, and healing emotion. For Water, those are the Kidneys, Dark Blue, and Gratitude. Each element has an element that supports it, and another that suppresses it. An issue could arise because of blocks to that element, or it’s too weak, or it’s too strong. Because of this, I prefer to do all 5 elements of the active exercise so I know I’m balancing everything.
Wishing you a peaceful day ✨
