The Project of Primary Health Care

The Project of Primary Health Care Nurse & Case Management for folks living with HIV & free HIV & STI Testing for all community members! The change took place, as planned, on January 1, 2013.

The AIDS Project of Central Iowa formally joined forces with Primary Health Care, Inc. (PHC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and federally qualified community health center. The Project and PHC have been partnering for 20+ years to offer a broad array of services for Iowans at risk for and living with HIV. Now a full continuum of services from testing to treatment is available through one organization. Staff at both
agencies have been working together to not only maintain, but expand, access to care, support, and prevention services.

Talking about PrEP with your partner is a powerful step toward protecting each other’s health.

PrEP is a once-daily pill that helps prevent HIV, and it works best when it’s part of an open, honest conversation. Whether you’re just learning about PrEP or already taking it, starting the discussion can make a real difference.

Seeing real stories like the one in this video: “How HIV Treatment Became Part of My Life” reminds us how far HIV care has come, and why access matters.
In the video, activist Aracelis Quinones shares how HIV treatment transformed her life: once facing a regimen of 24 pills/day, now many people live healthy lives on just one daily pill — and can remain “undetectable,” meaning the virus is not transmissible.

That progress is why we offer free, accessible HIV/STI testing and support — because treatment saves lives and restores dignity.
