Happy Halloween! I wanted to post today because I have been seeing so many Christians talk about how Halloween is “evil” and should not be celebrated. In my opinion this is an extreme viewpoint and comes from a place of fear versus understanding.
This entire weekend, the veil is thinnest between the seen and unseen worlds. The diminishing of the veil is an exciting time. This means your ancestors are closer than ever, communication with passed loved ones is easier, and divination is more effective.
The ancients understood that if you have bad spirits that you must always also have good spirits. The universe is always in balance; remember that! They thought that if they dressed up as the spirits themselves (or other nasty creatures) they would not be recognized as human and therefore not attacked. Because they were dressed up, play and mischief ensued. They also carved turnips originally, which led to the pumpkin jack-o-lanterns, to scare off any evil spirits. So, interestingly enough, many of these traditions are to scare off evil spirits while honoring our loved ones.
Halloween is a wonderful holiday, because people decide to let go and “let their hair down.” They relax! Halloween unites communities and neighborhoods by introducing family and friends to those around us in a non-threatening and joyful way. Think of how many people today don’t even know or speak to their neighbors. Moreover, this weekend is about celebrating our loved ones that have passed. In other traditions, a candle or lantern is left in the window as a beacon to guide their passed loved ones home.
In conclusion, it is important to remember that what you resists, persists. If you fear evil, then you will always see evil. You create and attract your own reality. Don’t get me wrong, evil and malevolent spirits are real. However when you understand how to protect yourself and your mind, you decide to live a life of joy! I wish you all a safe and wonderful Happy Halloween!
