As a Winemaker turned Aromatherapist my passion has always focused on aromatics. I encourage and teach only safe, ethical sourcing and use of essential oils.

I look forward to sharing my gift of hand poured and hand crafted alchemy with you. Koru Essential Oils is created out of the love of science and nature. I studied wine making in Washington State, earning a degree in Enology, Viticulture, and Fermentation Science. Built on a foundation in the wine industry and medical massage therapy, aromatherapy seemed to be a natural next step. The pure therapeutic essential oils are hand chosen from all over the world. I'm so excited to be working with my very own oils and know exactly what they are, what they are not, where they come from - dialed down to the latitude, longitude, soil type, harvest date and even the Brix! (Sugar measurement, or Brix, isn't just specific to wine - it's applied to essential oils as well.) It's just one of the many important variables that assist me in determining the aroma quality, chemical compounds, their concentrations, as well as purity! Most of my oils are wild grown or certified organic as well. I only bottle the highest quality oils and I run trial after trial to assure that everything that goes into Koru Essential Oils is of the highest quality. I even hand pour, hand bottle, and hand label them, typically upon order so that they remain fresh until you receive them! Think of a demanding aromatic wine that knocks your socks off and you (might) be prepared to experience Koru Essential Oils!

One of the things I love most about aromatherapy is how these beautiful plant oils can become part of everyday life in simple, practical ways. Lemon essential oil is naturally bright, fresh, and traditionally used for cleaning because of its uplifting aroma and cleansing properties.

One oil I truly could not live without is Bergamot.

Every time I have the chance to bottle my Organic Bergamot and send it out into the world, it genuinely warms my heart. There is something special about sharing an oil that has supported me personally for years.

Bergamot has this beautiful dual nature.

It is bright and uplifting like a citrus, yet at the same time it carries a soft, grounding quality that feels calming and steady. It can gently lift your mood while still helping you feel centered.

If the aroma seems familiar, there is a good reason. Bergamot is the signature scent that gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive fragrance.

For me, it is one of the most emotionally supportive oils in aromatherapy. I often reach for it when I need a little lift, a little clarity, or simply a moment to reset.

Something interesting happens when you spend enough time in the world of essential oils.

You start noticing the same phrases everywhere.

“Therapeutic grade.”
“Certified pure.”
“Medical grade.”
“Clean.”
“Clinical strength.”

They sound reassuring. They suggest quality, safety, and expertise.

But most people are surprised to learn that 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲.

That does not necessarily mean the oils themselves are bad. But it does mean the words alone do not guarantee anything.

So how do you actually evaluate the quality of an essential oil?

Many fruits and vegetables are coated with natural waxes, dirt from harvesting, and sometimes pesticide residue from growing and transport. Because of that, many people choose to wash their produce with a simple natural solution instead of water alone.

One of the easiest ways to do this at home uses ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen.
