Brittani reached out to me late one night, asking if I had room to walk with her through her birth. Some calls arrive gently, some arrive heavy with spirit… this one felt like both. Birthwork is the place where we stand between heaven and earth, witnessing souls cross the threshold. It is where joy and grief sit shoulder to shoulder, and where love refuses to disappear, even when someone we miss is no longer here.
Brittani carried both life and loss in the same heartbeat. Her fiancé, Desmond, transitioned during her pregnancy. Love gone too soon, but never absent. I never met him, yet the way she spoke his name told me everything. His presence filled the room long before labor began.
On the day she gave birth, Brittani and Desmond’s son Meech stepped forward with quiet strength, a gentle protector, a big brother who understood exactly what this moment meant. He and Brittani’s mother held space for their family with a tenderness that felt ancestral.
The room was thick with love. Laughter weaving through tears, friends surrounding her like a soft shield. And at 4:14 PM, weighing 7 lbs 3 oz, Baby Marquiano slipped into the world, carried on a wave of courage, legacy, and devotion.
They say there is no trophy for not getting an Epidural, but Brittani I’m giving you your trophy tonight. 🏆🎂 You wanted an unmedicated VBAC, surrounded by love and affirmation and that is what you got! You worked hard and trusted your body, you did it!
It was an honor to witness Brittani bring her child earthside. A birth touched by spirit and guided by love that continues on, even from the other side. ✨
