NextGen Member Spotlight: Faid Jaafar 🌟

Faid Jaafar is a graduate of San Diego State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She will be joining the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA this fall as an incoming M1.

A dedicated leader within NAAMA NextGen, Faid served as co-founder and co-president of the SDSU chapter and as National Chapter Development Chair (2022-2023), supporting the growth and mentorship of chapters nationwide. She also led a $2.5K donation drive and contributed to numerous service and community initiatives.

Faid has also completed research on the cardiopulmonary effects of va**ng. She is a published co-author in the Journal of the American Heart Association and has presented her research at multiple conferences. She is passionate about cardiology, nephrology, and improving care for underserved communities.

Outside of her work, she enjoys rollerblading, tennis, traveling, and watching soccer (FC Barcelona fan!).

We are proud to spotlight leaders like Faid who are making a meaningful impact, both in medicine and in their communities!

Chapter Spotlight: NAAMA NextGen at San Diego State University! ☀️

The SDSU chapter has hosted a dynamic range of events this year, including a vitals workshop where students gained hands-on experience with things like suturing, blood pressure measurement, and stethoscope use, along with campus outreach through Explore SDSU, and a bonfire collaboration with .

They’ve also created relevant opportunities for their members through professional panels with PA students and medical school admissions teams, pre-med scheduling workshops with an academic advisor, and service initiatives like assembling holiday gift bags for children’s hospitals.

We’re proud to highlight the impact SDSU NextGen is making and look forward to seeing their continued growth this year!

NextGen Impact Spotlight 🌍

On Friday, March 27th, four members of the NAAMA NextGen University of Michigan chapter — Zahraa Alfatlawi, Sarah Wajdi, Luna Samman, and Rita Yammine — participated in the Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) Student Organization Health Equity Challenge. Competing alongside three other student org teams, they pitched their global health proposal to a panel of CGHE judges.

The team presented “Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Knowledge and Attitudes among Refugees and their Healthcare Workers in Lebanon,” in collaboration with Amel Association International (), and earned 2nd place, receiving a $3,000 award to support the implementation of their project.

We’re incredibly proud of this team’s dedication to advancing global health and health equity — and excited to see the impact of their work!
