It’s been 6 months since my bone marrow transplant and everything is going really well. I had a follow up appointment at the NIH and they have cleared me to begin my vaccinations again. I’m very excited moving forward with my life post transplant!!!

I finally got to come home!!!!! I’ve been back for a few days and been busy so sorry for the lack of updates. It’s been a long journey and I’m glad this part of it is over. I’ll have follows ups at NIH for the next five years so it’s far from complete. I’m feeling great and can’t wait to get back into a normal routine. Thanks again to everyone who has helped me along the way!

First update in a while. I’m doing really well and all my blood counts look fantastic. Things are boring here but I’ve been keeping busy with National Parks, going to DC and I even got to meet Dr. Francis Collins the director of The National Institutes of Health. Other than that I’m excited to come home and see everyone who I’ve missed over the last 4 months!!!

Great news!!! I’ve been released from the hospital and spent my first night in our apartment yesterday. This has been a great relief and I feel so much better living a more normal life. I’ll be coming to the hospital daily for infusions for a while. Eventually it’ll get down to a couple times a week. Thanks to everyone for following along!!!

Big update. Day +17. Most of my hair is gone and my head gets really cold now. All my blood counts are going up. The doctors ran a test today that would determine if the increase in counts is due to the donor cells taking hold. Early indications from the test shows that they are donor cells. This is really good news but as I said its an early indication. Along with this good news the doctors will be looking at discharge from the hospital soon.

Today is day +10. One of the nurses shaved my head to make it a bit more convenient for me. The rest should fall out over time. I’ve had some platelet and blood transfusions because some of my numbers are a bit low. This is nothing to be concerned about as most transplant patients need them. I’ve been in some pain as a result of the chemo but they have been really good at keeping it under control. Other than that all is well!!!

Today I had two rounds of radiation.
All is well and I have no side effects other than being tired. Got to ring the bell for my last dose of radiation. It’s been a long journey but I’m still it as it comes. Tomorrow, 9/2 is a day of rest in preparation for transplant on Friday 9/3. I’m beyond excited for this and will have more updates likely on Friday. See you soon!!!!
