Women have always been the heart of care, compassion, and community. And in funeral service, that legacy continues to grow. Today, women make up nearly 70% of mortuary science students and about 44% of licensed funeral directors—bringing not only expertise, but empathy, strength, and grace.
This Women’s History Month, we honor all women who have chosen this calling—and we proudly celebrate our own:
JoAnn Hill-Brown, Licensed Funeral Director, Chapel of Grace
Marie A. Taylor, Licensed Funeral Director, River Rouge
Ursula B. Woodruff-Harris, Licensed Funeral Director, Detroit West
Each of these women represents a commitment to serving families with dignity, care, and intention—continuing a legacy of excellence rooted right here in our community. As proud alumni of Wayne State University, just like our Founder, Clora Major Jr., they carry forward a tradition of leadership, service, and impact across metro Detroit.
We honor your work. We honor your presence. And we thank you for the Major Difference you make—every single day.
