Slow Rollers,
Like you, we have been watching the news about COVID-19, anticipating its arrival here, and wondering how it will affect all of our lives. We hope all of you are safe and taking every precaution.
Slow Roll Detroit’s 2020 Season is delayed. A bike ride drawing thousands of people can not happen at this time. We don’t know when we will be able to kick things off and we don’t intend to guess. We do fully intend to have a meaningful season, but we will only do so when it is safe and in formats that make sense. We will continue to adhere to what City and Public Health Officials recommend and will announce the 2020 schedule when we know we can.
Slow Roll can still happen. Right now, with you. Slow Roll started as a ride among a small group of friends who found joy in getting on their bikes and exploring their city. You can still ride your bike, and we hope you will. We all need to find connection in this time of isolation. Fresh air and a little exercise will do us all some good. We don’t recommend riding in groups, but get out there alone or with a couple of your fellow isolators - the people living in your household. When you ride, maintain social distancing and give anyone you see on the road space, even leaving space between yourselves.
Wash your hands and sanitize before and after your ride, immediately take a shower and wash your clothes upon returning home. Leave your bike outside or in the garage, but but if you must bring it in your house make sure to disinfect it before you do.
Wear your helmets and follow the rules of the road. This is no time for accidents – the hospitals are busy enough.
Share the photos and videos of your personal Slow Rolls - post them to our Facebook group & tag us on Instagram using . If you bike to curbside pick-up, tag the restaurants!
We are developing alternative ways Slow Rollers can support each other and continue to promote cycling in our city. We will share those with you all soon. Until then, stay safe.
