High School students led a community service initiative benefiting organizations across metro Detroit, including the Neighborhood Service Organization, in honor of Black History Month.

The community service project was led by Nadiyah Traver, Chair of MLK Day Community Engagement. The project supported 15 community organizations and provided hygiene kits for 2,000 individuals. NSO was honored to receive hundreds of kits that will directly support clients.

We are grateful to Nadiyah Traver and the entire Detroit Country Day community for turning Black History Month into a month of action and service.

🙌Thank You to Our Warming Center Donors!
When we put out an urgent call for help during the extreme cold, our community responded immediately.

Thank you to the donors who quickly provided hundreds of essential items for individuals using our Warming Center, including socks, clothing, shoes, hygiene kits, water, snacks, wash clothes, towels, utensils, hats, sweatshirts, and gloves.

Your fast response helped us ensure that everyone who came through our doors had what they needed to stay warm, clean, and cared for.

We appreciate your generosity and your willingness to step up when it mattered most.

Mission Moment: NSO Facilitates Warming Center During Extreme Cold in Partnership with the City of Detroit Government
During the last weeks, NSO opened its doors as part of the City’s Warming Center network to ensure our unhoused neighbors had a safe place to escape life-threatening temperatures. What made this effort truly powerful was the community that stood behind it. The success of the warming center services would not be possible without the help of our staff and the generosity of our donors and community partners.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Coordinated Assessment Model (CAM) and the City of Detroit Housing and Revitalization Department for being on-site, offering direct support, and working one-on-one with warming center guests to help them in their efforts to secure permanent shelter for the remainder of the winter.

To our donors and community supporters, thank you for making it possible for NSO to respond quickly and effectively in a moment of urgent need. And to our incredible NSO staff who volunteered, worked extended hours, and stepped up without hesitation, your commitment ensured that lives were protected when it mattered most.
