Is there a “right” age for knee replacement? DMC orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Bryan Little, discusses why age alone may not be the only consideration when evaluating knee pain and treatment options. He explains how factors like overall health, activity level, and how pain affects daily life can help guide conversations with a physician.

Burn risks exist in every workplace. Taking simple, proactive steps can help prevent injuries and keep everyone safe. Prevention tips from the American Burn Association can help teams identify hazards, use proper protective equipment, and stay alert around heat sources.
A severe burn is more than a physical injury—it’s a life-altering trauma that impacts every part of your life. At Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM), we understand the complex challenges that burn survivors face—from the moment of injury through long-term recovery. Our Burn Injury Rehabilitation Program, in partnership with Detroit Receiving Hospital’s verified burn center, offers one of the most comprehensive burn rehab services in the region. Meet Latinya, our “Patient of the Month.” After contracting COVID, she spent 20 days in a coma and had both legs amputated below the knee. She spent 108 days at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital before transferring to DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) for inpatient rehab. At RIM, she worked on her strength and stamina, and by the time her prosthetic limbs arrived, she was strong enough to walk in them. Later that year, she had a stroke that left her left side paralyzed. She knew there was only one place to go...back to RIM.

Today, Latinya continues outpatient rehab three times a week and can now take a few steps, cook, drive, and care for herself. She says RIM’s therapies, equipment, and compassion have supported her throughout her journey.

Some of our former patients had an amazing time learning how to play wheelchair pickleball, and it’s safe to say a fun time was had by all.

Huge thank you to Disability Network Eastern Michigan and Reimagine Life Foundation for hosting such a fantastic event and creating space for movement, connection, and confidence.
