Rising costs are reshaping retirement — and older adults are stepping back into the workforce with purpose.

WXYZ recently spotlighted how Metro Detroit retirees are re-entering employment for financial stability, social connection, and community impact, supported by job training and placement programs for adults 55+.

Older adult workers are an asset — and opportunity matters.

Last week, DAAA participated in the 2026 USAgingPolicy Conference to engage directly in federal policy discussions impacting older adults, caregivers, and community‑based aging services.

Alongside aging leaders and legislators, we participated in a full day of advocacy on Capitol Hill and engaged with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Senator Elissa Slotkin, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, and Congressman Shri Thanedar to advance priorities critical to Metro Detroit’s aging population.

A productive exchange with Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, further underscored the importance of public‑private collaboration in strengthening systems that support aging with dignity, access, and independence.

Happy 313 Day.

March 13th is a celebration of Detroit’s identity, a moment to recognize the innovation, culture, and community pride represented by the 313.

It’s also an opportunity to honor our city's culture and the Detroiters who’ve shaped this city over decades, especially older adults! Their leadership, labor, and lived experience continue to define Detroit’s great legacy.
