Definitely in the top 10 reasons why being a midwife (& independently self-employed ) is so dope…
It allows me to make my own schedule of busy-ness so that I can take in these
once-in-a-lifetime moments, particularly this summer.
Prom; Graduation; trip to Honduras w daughters; time w dad; time w friend; time w goddess-mom; birthday parties of babies I’ve birthed; open houses; golf trips; college move in day 🥹✨

Uva Ursi Infusion… I currently have a client who gets UTIs kinda frequently. Her UTI was causing uterine irritability to the tune of “possible early labor”. After several bottles of unsweetened cranberry juice and no change, it was time to bring in the bigger guns - UVA URSI.
An infusion is made from the bulk herb (steep for 4 hours to overnight) drink 1 cup every 4 hours like clockwork for 5 days. My client is feeling 100% better 🥳. An untreated UTI can lead to a kidney infection - ouch! or even premature rupture of membranes 😳 Do not over look a UTI, it needs to remedied. Uva Ursi is extremely effective but should only be used after other methods have been tried and are unsuccessful. Uva Ursi is nature’s antibiotic.

Celebrating Midwives Day 🌷: without even realizing it was “our” day, I spent breakfast with my most influential senior midwife. To become a midwife, we must spend years apprenticing with senior midwives who all contribute to honing our skills. It is a relationship that can mirror a good or tumultuous teenager/parent bond. We do great and serious work in moments and when you can love, respect and remain bonded with those you learn under it tis a most beautiful thang 💞

There exists true satisfaction in knowing your family is complete, just the right girls and boy or boys and girl or boy/girl or boys/girls. Life transitions, though not always easy can and should be celebrated because there’s many more experiences awaiting discovery. It tis nice to have choices and options.

ABOUT

Twenty two years ago, my journey began: Shortly after finishing a tour with the U.S. Peace Corps in Honduras, Central America, I birthed my daughter in my in-law's home. It was the most amazing experience and it fueled my passion to become a midwife. My second daughter was born eight years later in my home, in Detroit. I now have 4 children and one grandchild, also born at home.

Over the past 22 years, I have assisted over 280 babies into this world doing birth work. I became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) after graduating Birthwise Midwifery School (located in Bridgton, Maine) in 2015. Since becoming a CPM, I have caught babies here at home and the in the state of Wisconsin, co-founded the Mosaic Midwifery Collective in the Detroit area and was recently appointed by Governor Snyder to the first ever, State of Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery, to serve until 2020. Midwifery keeps me busy and happy but I still devote time to my second profession, licensed paramedic (since 2002). As a paramedic, I worked in the emergency department of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital for 11 years and formally with the Detroit Fire Department, EMS Division.

I have and do work collaboratively with many local midwives including - Linda Honey DEM, Eileen Denomme CPM, Nicole White CPM Kate Mazzara CPM, Anna Fernandez CPM, Jaime Edisaith CPM, Amanda Howell CPM, Tasha Scott CNM, Stacia Proefrock CPM, Heather Lamanski CPM, Cynthia Jackson and Jahmanna Selassie, the other co-founders of the Mosaic Midwifery Collective.
