Thanks to Center For Nature Informed Therapy for this lovely reminder:
Work With Winter, Not Against It
If you’ve been feeling more tired, slower, or less motivated lately, pause before judging yourself.
Winter naturally asks the body to conserve energy, slow down, and turn inward. This isn’t a flaw—it’s biology.
One of the most supportive things you can do for your mental health in winter is to embrace the season rather than resist it.
Try this simple winter rhythm:
Get outside once a day, even briefly, for natural light
Dress for the weather, not the calendar
Move gently—a short walk is enough
Create a cozy return ritual (tea, soft light, warm layers)
If staying warm feels like the barrier, REI has a great, easy-to-follow guide on how to dress for cold weather using simple layering principles:
REI: How to Dress in Layers for Cold Weather: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/how-to-dress-in-cold-weather.html
When your body feels protected and comfortable, it’s much easier to step outside—even on gray days.
