Supportive care can make a meaningful difference for people undergoing intensive leukemia treatment.

A pilot study published in Oncology Nursing Forum examined Healing Touch (HT) as a supportive intervention for adults hospitalized with acute leukemia. During nine HT sessions over three weeks, patients experienced significant pre-post reductions in fatigue and nausea.

The study did not find statistically significant improvements in pain, distress, sleep quality, or overall symptom burden over the five-week follow-up period. However, patients consistently reported feeling relaxed and calm during and after HT sessions, a theme strongly reflected in qualitative feedback.

This research does not suggest Healing Touch treats leukemia or replaces medical care. It suggests that gentle, non-invasive approaches may help ease some immediate treatment-related symptoms and provide moments of comfort during hospitalization.
