One week of progress.

This is a 94-year-old leg after one week of treatment using the Aerolase Neo Elite and three CO₂Lift masks. At this age, skin becomes thinner, circulation is reduced, and normal healing slows significantly.

Without intervention, superficial wounds like these in a patient in their 90s commonly take 4–8 weeks or longer to close, and in some cases they can persist even longer if inflammation and tissue oxygenation are not improved.

These images show the first seven days. In that time we have already seen visible reduction in inflammation and early tissue response.

That matters. Because progress in the first week often determines whether healing takes months or weeks.

Accountability matters.

Before photos can be humbling. They show the things we usually try to hide: pigment, texture, unevenness, the small details we notice every time we look in the mirror. Sometimes it’s the entire picture not just a feature.

When someone allows those photos to be shared publicly, it takes trust. Those images are vulnerable. They show a version of ourselves most people would normally keep private.

I have always believed in holding myself to the same expectations I place on others. I don’t ask or expect someone to do something I am not willing to do myself.

I always delete the pictures I don’t want anyone to see, but I managed to find some from a couple years ago. So these are before photos.

The kind everyone would hesitate to let anyone see.
The kind that are uncomfortable to share.

But accountability matters.

Melasma is one of the most stubborn pigment conditions to treat. Many topical creams only address surface discoloration, which is why the pigment often returns.

The Aerolase Neo Elite works differently.

Using a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with an ultra-short 650 microsecond pulse, the laser energy penetrates deeper into the skin where melasma develops. This allows the treatment to:

• Break up excess melanin responsible for dark patches
• Target deeper dermal pigment that topical products cannot reach

Skin in your 90s behaves very differently than skin in your 40s or 50s. With age, skin becomes thinner and more fragile, and the small blood vessels lose structural integrity. When someone also has a history of venous stasis ulcers and is taking a blood thinner like Eliquis (apixaban), even minor pressure or friction can lead to bruising, small areas of bleeding under the skin, and scab formation.

These images show my 94-year-old grandmother’s lower leg. She has chronic venous insufficiency and a history of venous stasis ulcers. Because of her age, fragile skin, and anticoagulation therapy, small areas of bleeding can occur in the superficial tissue and form dark crusted areas as they dry and stabilize.

Before these changes, she had one Aerolase Neo Elite laser treatment for wound care.

Over the next 48 hours, the skin showed measurable improvement:

• Decreased surrounding redness
• Reduced inflammatory appearance of the tissue
• Areas beginning to dry and form stable crust rather than spreading
• Less tissue irritation around the lesions
• Skin beginning to calm and stabilize overall

This is not an infection. What you are seeing is fragile skin with vascular compromise responding to minor trauma while on anticoagulation, gradually stabilizing as the tissue heals.

Treatment so far included the Aerolase Neo Elite laser on Friday. Today (Sunday) she received another round of laser wound care along with a CO₂ mask applied to both lower legs to support hydration and skin recovery.

We will continue monitoring closely and will keep you posted on her progress.
