Wanda spent 45 years at the bedside. Now, she’s on the other side of it. What started as a practical choice turned into a cross-country career full of one thing: people who mattered.

The last few days of April have been filled with music by Country Cliff, Bob & Nancy Balyeat plus Russ and Irma Fast root beer floats, a pinochle tournament and tomorrow Happy Hour with music by a one man band - J.L. Wilkins!

Some moments don’t feel like endings… they feel like quiet invitations to begin again.

For Janet, that moment came after an ankle injury made it harder to manage the six-bedroom home she had loved for years. What she really needed wasn’t more space. It was support, connection, and people around her again.

With her daughter by her side, she explored assisted living. The moment she walked into Edgewood Hawks Point, she felt it warmth, kindness, and a true sense of home.

“I knew I would be in a good place.”

Now, her days are filled with friendships, activities, and meaningful moments and she’s often the first to welcome someone new.

Janet turns 94 this June, a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to start a new chapter.

And if you ask her? She’ll tell you, "I Wish I Would Have Moved Sooner.’”

"We need a place for Mom… and Medicaid needs to start NOW."

If only it worked like that. Medicaid isn’t a sprint it’s a marathon with paperwork.

But planning early? That’s the game‑changer. Our teams walk families through the process long before the crisis moment hits.

Less chaos. More clarity. Better outcomes.

Many families start the Medicaid conversation when they’re already in crisis, but the process takes time. Understanding the basics and planning ahead can make all the difference when care is needed.

Happy Volunteer Recognition Day! Our Edgewood community has been blessed with multiple volunteers. From one on one visits, bingo callers, extra pinochle players, bible studies & grief support to musicians & bakers. We appreciate you all donating alittle time out of your days to spend time with our residents. Thank you to the many DSU students that have popped in to share stories, play games and lead an activity or two. We appreciate all of your kind hearts to our Edgewood community.

What a way to start a Thursday! Our Executive Director Carrie had a birthday and we decided a surprise party was in order! Happy Birthday, Carrie and thank you for your dedication to both staff and residents! Here’s to another wonderful year of leadership and compassion!

This week residents and staff enjoyed breakfast at Country Kitchen with Park Ave Villa residents! Delish! We also had our Resident & Staff chicken cook off. A variety of delicious chicken dishes to vote for. Our Clinical Services Director Holly won with her Chicken Quiche, our Business Office Director Cindy won with her Chicken Enchiladas & Mike won with his Crockpot Chicken Coconut Curry!

Sometimes the simplest habits have the biggest impact. Today’s Lunch & Learn, Wellness Maintenance, was about how to live a healthier life. We learned about how clean hands, clean homes, routine vaccinations and staying home or wearing a mask when sick can make all the difference. A big thank you to Shantel Klym, infection prevention preventionist from CHI St. Alexis for presenting this helpful information!
