Struggling with mental health recovery? Here are quick, practical tips:

- Notice when you’re avoiding something: avoiding only fuels anxiety. Try a small step forward instead.
- Be mindful of alcohol or substance use: it often masks stress but rarely solves it.
- Choose foods that boost your mood: opt for balanced, colorful meals.
- Seek out people and hobbies that truly match your values: your environment matters!

Tiny changes add up. If you’re looking for support, we’re here to help you find the next step.

When the days get shorter and colder, it’s common to notice a change in your mood or energy. If you find it harder to get out of bed, crave more carbs, or feel a little more isolated, you’re not alone: these are real signs that the season is affecting you.

If a lot of this feels familiar, it could be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and it’s okay to take steps to care for yourself!

Here are a few ways to support your mental health this season:
• Try to get outside in natural light every morning, even if it’s cloudy
• Move your workspace closer to a window if possible
• Stick to a consistent sleep schedule
• Reach out to friends or join a group: connection really helps
• Consider a light therapy lamp (talk to your provider first)
• Make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin D
• Try a new winter tradition or self-care ritual

Remember, reaching out when you feel like disconnecting can make a huge difference. We’re here if you need support. 631-759-5519 | www.lotuspsychologypractice.com

No one deserves to feel unsafe, unseen, or unheard: especially at home. Domestic violence isn't only physical. It can also be emotional or psychological and may show up in subtle ways:

• Constant criticism or humiliation
• Controlling your finances, choices, or relationships
• Isolation from loved ones
• Unpredictable mood swings
• Threats, intimidation, or blaming you for their actions
• Physical harm or fear of harm
Recognizing these signs is the first step toward help and healing. If you or someone you care about needs support, reaching out is a sign of strength. Healing is possible, and you are not alone.

It’s no secret: politics can stir up strong emotions and even tension, especially among friends, family, or partners with different beliefs. Lately, more people are saying they’ve felt distant or even argued over current events and political choices. While disagreements are natural, it’s how we handle them that really matters. Open conversation, respect, and empathy can keep relationships strong, even when opinions don’t line up. Curious about navigating these tricky moments? Ever notice your thoughts going in circles, replaying worries, what-ifs, and doubts?

Overthinking is our brain trying to protect us, but it can leave us feeling stuck, anxious, or restless: like replaying a conversation for hours instead of winding down for sleep.

You're not alone in this cycle! If you find yourself overthinking, try these CBT-informed strategies:

• Challenge your thoughts: ask yourself, "Is this a fact, or just a feeling?"
• Stay present: take a few deep breaths, or go outside for a short walk to reset your mind.
• Describe what's happening in the moment: try saying, "My mind is racing with worries right now." This gentle awareness can help you step back without fighting your thoughts.

Everyone overthinks sometimes, so give yourself compassion as you practice letting go. Need extra support? We're here to help. Contact Lotus Psychology Practice.
