I’m Pedro Curbelo, Founder and CEO of Koala. I’m Cuban by birth and American by Freedom!
Miami is living proof of what happens when Cuban roots meet relentless work ethic and LIBERTAD. Cubans who arrived with nothing but faith, culture, and determination went on to build businesses that didn’t just survive, they served.
(Sergio’s) is one of those stories. From humble beginnings to becoming a Miami institution, Sergio’s has always shown up for the community. They don’t just make great croquetas! they support families, nonprofits, and causes that matter. Sergio’s has donated food for every Koala event, always putting children and community first.
Raul Abreu, Corporate Operations Manager at Sergio’s, gave me a simple gift that said everything: a hat that reads “Cuban Roots.” This is not a slogan, it’s a legacy!
Koala’s journey follows that same Cuban exile path: build with integrity, grow with humility, and once you rise, reach back. Through Koala ABA & Learning Centers, we serve children and families with the same values that built Miami’s Cuban community — hard work, accountability, and service.
I’m Grateful to the United States of America for the freedom, opportunity, and dignity that communism could never give.
Exile didn’t break us. It built us!
