At the heart of RAO Heart & Vascular is more than medicine — it’s a love story built on service, dedication, and a shared calling to heal.
Dr. Faye Rao began her journey in medicine after earning her medical degree from Wayne State University. She went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. It was there — surrounded by long hospital days and a mutual passion for caring for patients — that she met Dr. Peter Rao.
Dr. Peter Rao earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University and also trained at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he spent nine years completing his Internal Medicine residency along with fellowships in Adult Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. Together, they grew not only as physicians, but as partners — united by their commitment to heart health.
In 2009, the Raos made a life-changing decision: they moved to Dothan, Alabama, bringing their expertise to the Wiregrass community. Dr. Peter began serving patients as an Interventional Cardiologist, helping establish the Structural Heart Program at Southeast Health, while continuing to perform advanced cardiac procedures. Dr. Faye joined the community as a Non-Interventional Cardiologist, building lasting relationships with patients and families over more than a decade of care.
But their dream went deeper than practicing medicine. In January 2022, Drs. Faye and Peter Rao opened their own practice — creating RAO Heart & Vascular with one clear mission: to provide the very best cardiac care while treating every patient like family.
Today, they work side by side as husband and wife, combining advanced technology with compassion, precision with warmth, and clinical excellence with personal connection. Every diagnosis, every procedure, every follow-up visit carries the same purpose — protecting the hearts of their community.
Because for the Raos, this isn’t just a practice... It’s a promise.
From their family to yours — your heart is in good hands.
