With trick-or-treaters filling neighborhood streets tonight, let this be a reminder to slow down, stay aware and make safety part of the celebration.

Before you head out for the festivities, take a moment to review a few simple safety reminders:
• Choose costumes that fit well and don’t block vision
• Use reflective materials or carry a flashlight to stay visible
• Walk on sidewalks, cross at corners and stay alert near traffic
• Young children should be accompanied by an adult, and older kids should travel in groups on familiar routes
• Drivers—slow down in neighborhoods and watch for pedestrians

Wishing everyone a fun and safe evening celebrating the season!🧡

October serves as a powerful reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person whose life has been forever changed.

Radiology Interest Group Vice President, Alis Mullen, and SGA Director of Wellness, Rebecca Best, created a display to help their peers see beyond the textbooks and imaging scans to remember that real people live with the impact of cancer every day.

Featuring four women whose stories of strength and survival are paired with radiology images of their breast cancer, the project creates a powerful connection between science and humanity. Ultimately, reminding us of our shared goal as student doctors to understand disease not just for the sake of medicine, but for the preservation of our patients’ minds, bodies, and spirits. 💗

Our second-year medical students in Health Systems Science III recently participated in a Poverty Simulation. The simulation is an immersive experience that increases awareness of the daily challenges faced by individuals and families living in poverty.

The Community Action Poverty Simulation allowed students to navigate real-life scenarios that required difficult choices about housing, food, employment and healthcare. This hands-on exercise deepened understanding of how social and economic barriers impact health outcomes and strengthened empathy for future patients.

Learning to see beyond the clinical setting prepares our students to care for the whole person—mind, body and circumstance.💙

InSPIRED to the Core Week 2025 reminded us what it truly means to live out ACOM’s Core Values — Integrity, Service, Passion, Innovation, Respect, Excellence, and Diversity.

Throughout the week, students, faculty and staff reflected on which core value resonated with them by writing it on an apple and sharing how they bring that value to life each day. Together, these apples created our “InSPIRED Tree,” a vibrant display of unity and purpose across campus.

We also saw our values in action throughout the community as several students led Clear the Air presentations at local high schools, educating teens about the dangers of va**ng and empowering them to make healthier choices.

Receiving the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Distinction (HEED) Award for the third consecutive year is a reflection of how we truly live out our Core Values every day with compassion, collaboration and a shared commitment to making a difference. For ACOM, this recognition highlights our work is more than a health campaign; it represents a model for how values can extend beyond campus walls and create a scalable, community-centered and values-driven approach.

Weeks like this serve as a reminder that ACOM’s values aren’t just words on a wall — they’re the foundation of who we are and who we’re becoming as future physicians, educators and community leaders 🤝
