My name is Deb Martin Irby, BC-HIS, and changing peoples lives by reconnecting them to life through better hearing is my passion.

My journey into hearing healthcare is personal. I watched my father struggle with hearing loss that later contributed to dementia. That experience shaped my commitment to educating patients about the important connection between hearing health, cognitive health, and overall quality of life.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology has declared December Safe Toys and Celebrations Month. Roughly 1 in 10 children’s eye injuries that end up in the ER are caused by toys. Be cautious when choosing holiday gifts and pay attention to appropriate age ranges.

A memory:
Just back from vacation, really enjoyed seeing my family again. My dad is going to be 90 in December, he's been diagnosed with dementia, and my heart broke when i saw him sitting in his chair, head dropped and drifting off to sleep...he stayed that way almost all day. I also noticed he wasn't wearing his hearing aids, when I asked why, he said couldn't find them. I found them in his room, caked with ear wax, and not working. I cleaned them up for him and put a fresh battery in both, they fired right up... when I put them in his ears, HE fired right up, his countenance changed, his smile broadened, and that "lost" look he had disappeared... hearing connects you to the life around you and the people you love; if you have a mom or dad who seem detached and uninvolved, don't let them sit there, take them to get their hearing checked, or if they have aids, make sure they aren't clogged with wax, most aids found in a drawer are just that, clogged, clean them out, and they are good as new! Helping people hear better! I love what I do! love my Dad too!! Love seeing his smile and hearing his wisdom!

Look who stopped by, full of thanks for our teamwork! Referred to Dr. Harris, then sent to Birmingham. He is sooo excited, as i am too!
He’s doing great with his cochlear implant and is already way ahead of the game! 🎉 we fit the one side, and Dr. Rodgers did the rest!
He’s so excited to be hearing again. Moments like this are exactly why we do what we do.
This is what purpose looks like. 💛
