Gary Harper Obituary
Gary Harper, 63, of Douglas, Ga, passed away on June 29, 2024, at Ascension St Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, Fl with his family and friends by his side.

Gary was born on August 26, 1960, to Wallace and Janice Moore Harper of Douglas, Ga. After Gary graduated from Coffee High School, he joined the United States Marine Corp., serving a 4- year contract at Parris Island in South Carolina as a Computer Technologist.

In 1988, Gary met his spouse, Donna McGouyrk Harper, several years after he returned home from the service. Gary gained four beautiful daughters from his marriage to Donna: Mindie M. Horton, Melisa Taylor (Scott), Kelly Barrs (Jeffrey), and Christy Barton, all of Douglas, Ga. He later became ‘Papa’ to ten grandchildren: Ryan Rimes (Ashley), Kameron Taylor (Brittney), Tyler Barrs (Catie), Logan Smith, Shianna Anderson (Caleb), Cody Smith, Kaleb Barton (Angel), Lexi O’Donnell (Ryan), Kaitlyn Taylor, and Kamden Varnedoe. He also became ‘Papa’ to seventeen great grandchildren.

He has one brother, Michael Harper, and a niece, Hannah Harper of Douglas, Ga and several other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Wallace Harper, and his mother,
Janice Moore Harper. Gary had an astounding love for his family but also his animals. He had a strong love and bond with his dogs, Blackjack, Baby, Jocko, and Jojee. His love for animals and the outdoors was phenomenal. To know him was to know he could always be found somewhere outside with his animals or in the woods, deer hunting. Gary was an excellent outdoorsman, from training animals to teaching others about animals and hunting. He leaves behind many close friends that he loved and that loved him dearly. He will be remembered by many for his way of life and his love. He will truly be missed by all.
