Thursday, June 18: COVID-19 Daily Report
Cobb and Douglas Public Health has released a new daily report to keep the public informed on how COVID-19 has affected Cobb and Douglas Counties.
In this report you will find information on the total confirmed COVID-19 cases (individuals who tested positive), hospitalizations, deaths attributed to COVID-19 and testing data in Cobb and Douglas counties. Data will be updated at the end of each day.
Additionally, data is based on available information at the time of the report and may not reflect current case status. You will also find data on populations that are especially vulnerable to the virus and our recommended protocol for keeping our residents safe.

Douglas County Board of Commissioners to meet through a videoconference. Douglas County continues to respond to COVID-19 with guidance from Cobb & Douglas Public Health to reduce the risk to the community, elected officials and employees. Thursday, June 18: Liberty Road Bridge Closure
Georgia Department of Transportation will be closing the Liberty Road bridge over I-20 to do improvements to the bridge. The bridge work will be similar to the work GDOT performed at Post Road and several other locations along I-20. GDOT anticipates the bridge will be closed for 45 days. The detour route will be as follows: Vehicles on Liberty Road headed north to points north of I-20, will be directed to take I-20 east to Post Road, turn left on Post Road, cross over the bridge there and take I-20 west back to the Liberty Road/Mirror Lake Blvd interchange. They can then exit at the westbound ramp at that interchange and turn right to continue northbound on Mirror Lake Blvd. Similarly, vehicles traveling southbound on Liberty Road to areas south of I-20 will be directed to take I-20 west to SR 61, take the westbound exit ramp, turn left on SR 61 and cross over the bridge at that location, then take I-20 east back to Liberty Road and exit at the Liberty Road interchange then turn right to proceed southbound on Liberty Road. Based on the latest information regarding the Coronavirus, the 2020 Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival, Garden Tour and Flower Show scheduled for June 6 and 7, 2020 has been rescheduled to the first full weekend in June of 2021 (June 5 and 6). In the meantime, if you or anyone you know, may have a garden suitable to showcase during future garden tours, please contact Douglas County Museum of History and Art at 678-449-3939. Make a difference in the lives of homebound older adults when you deliver a hot meal and a smile. Join Douglas County's Senior Services highly motivated group of volunteers and staff that serve 150 clients each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer regularly on a daily, weekly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc. schedule that works best for you. Our clients appreciate and look forward to the daily visits from the volunteers. Tallatoona are accepting appointments for the LIHEAP cooling program for Senior Households 65 & older and Homebound Households. Appointments for the General public are being accepted now as well. Douglas County residents who qualify will receive either $350.00 or $400.00 toward their electric bill. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to health and safety concerns related to COVID 19, appointments for assistance will be completed remotely by telephone. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County presents Douglas County Art Guild biannual exhibit featuring members once again for one of their most anticipated receptions of the year. View local art of various art forms in this collection of work dear to Douglas County’s own heart. Due to Covid-19 circumstances, the Cultural Arts Council will make the exhibit accessible to the community in the comfort of their homes. Join the CAC as they navigate a new way to showcase artwork amidst changing regulations. Throughout May, we will publicize artist interviews recorded within the center. Thursday, June 18: Connect Douglas Offers Routes to Summer Fun
All Summer fun seekers can ride the Connect Douglas Route 40 to Six Flags Over Georgia in the morning, spend a day of excitement, then return to Douglasville. The most convenient location to board the Route 40 bus is the Transportation Center at 8800 Dorris Rd. Douglasville, GA. Parents, children, and park goers can also skip the hassle of parking – park for free at the Douglas County Transportation Center! Connect Douglas operates four fixed bus routes including the Route 40 servicing Six Flags Over Georgia. Each of the operating buses are fully equipped with free Wi-Fi and security cameras for riders. Route 10 and Route 20 serve downtown Douglasville and the Highway 5/Stewart Parkway/Douglas Boulevard/Hospital Drive area. Route 30 serves Thornton Road south of I-20 and Riverside Drive west to American Red Cross and Tributary. Route 40 serves downtown Lithia Springs and connects the Douglasville Routes 10 and 20 to the Thornton Road/Riverside Route 30. Route 40 also connects with CobbLinc to provide access to the Atlanta H.E. Holmes MARTA station.

Connect Douglas has suspended its commuter van pool program until further notice, due to the continuing Coronavirus pandemic. Fixed-route, flex and paratransit services are still operating. Fixed route operating on Monday through Saturday schedule beginning at 7:00 a.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Douglas County Public Libraries will remain closed until further notice. Despite being closed, Douglas County Libraries are offering temporary drive-up services Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. These services include requesting library materials, checking out library materials/holds, and receiving printouts. To print materials, call your library and they will provide you with an email address and printing costs. Residents may not request more than ten items at a time. Staff guarantee items will be available one hour later upon request. The drive-up service is intended to provide as many library services as possible while libraries are closed to the public.

Thursday, June 18: Douglas County Chamber: Douglas Strong Relief Fund
The Douglas County Chamber and Douglas County Economic Development Authority are joining forces to support our Douglas County restaurants and provide daily meals to the over 500 healthcare workers at Wellstar Douglas Hospital and public safety workers serving on the front lines during the Coronavirus pandemic. We created the Douglas Strong Fund to support this effort as well as create a fund for the recovery effort of COVID-19. 100% of funds will be used to purchase meals which will be delivered to Wellstar Douglas Hospital and public safety departments. Individually packaged meals will be delivered to a safe location for workers to receive meals during their shifts. All meals will be provided by Douglas County restaurants who will be paid for these meals. This is a win-win-win. Front line workers need our support, local businesses need our patronage, and the residents of Douglas County want to do what they do best, help each other. The Top Ten Young Professionals of 2020 is a recognition presented by the DC Chamber’s Advancing Modern Professionals in Douglas (AMP’D). Advancing Modern Professionals in Douglas is a program of the Douglas County Chamber Foundation. The mission of AMP’D is attracting emerging professionals to engage, develop, and serve in Douglas County. Top Ten Applicants must complete the following: Provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in the community, demonstrate excellence, leadership, creativity and initiative in her/his business or profession, must be affiliated with a DC Chamber member business or organization, must be between the ages of 21 and 40 years old as of the submission deadline: Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The individual does NOT have to be a member of Advancing Modern Professionals in Douglas (AMP’D). Past Top Ten Young Professional winners may apply if the age requirement is met. However, individuals are not eligible to receive consecutive awards (i.e. if you were a TTYP in 2019, you are not eligible).
