Nichols Center: Families of Recovery

Nichols Center: Families of Recovery Helping families heal through recovery and wellness in Douglas County and greater West Georgia areas.

Our non-profit community based organization helps families affected by substance abuse and addiction. Recovery can be a long and difficult path, but it is one that you do not have to walk alone. We are families helping families, by reaching out to our community to educate, support, and empower the families of Douglas County; the Nichols Center will provide guided treatment planning, community linkage, and family support promoting "clean" healthy choices. Through providing substance abuse prevention education, parenting education, and weekly support meetings we can impact drug and relapse rates creating a safer home environment for our families.

In January 2026, I have the profound opportunity to travel with J1:10 Ministries to Uganda to bring vital mental health trauma-informed education to children and communities suffering from the devastating effects of poverty, displacement, and trauma.

Uganda faces a critical mental health crisis. Nearly 1 in 4 Ugandans live with a mental disorder, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD—conditions worsened by years of conflict, economic hardship, and limited access to care. Depression affects as many as 30.2% of adults and anxiety 22.2%, with youth and out-of-school children particularly vulnerable. Tragically, children aging out of school near the South Sudan border are at high risk of su***de due to poverty and trauma.

My journey will begin with a week in Gulu and Otici Village, where I will work directly with school children who have experienced unimaginable hardship. We aim to provide healing through the Nichols Center Grow Again trauma-informed curriculum, teaching universal principles of wellness and recovery. I will also travel to Mbarara to serve refugee children from Congo, survivors of violence and displacement, and support women in a vocational school who have endured r**e and abuse. Our work will extend to college students across Uganda, marking the Nichols Center’s first international implementation of this critical mental health curriculum.

To make this trip and impact possible, we need your support to raise $5,000 for travel and related expenses and provide 450 copies of The Happy Village Coloring Book for these children—a tool that fosters hope and resilience. Your generosity will enable us to bring healing, hope, and community to those who need it most.

Please consider donating today to support this life-changing mission. Together, we can empower Uganda’s children and families to grow again.

The Nichols Center was proud to attend the Actors Empowerment Summit Pop-Up at Sixby in Savannah during the Savannah Film Festival! This inspiring event brought together creators, performers, and advocates who share a passion for mental wellness in the entertainment industry.

We shared our mental health initiative, Take Eight — a call to action encouraging everyone to take just eight minutes each day to care for their mental well-being. In a field that demands constant creativity and connection, those moments of rest and reflection can make all the difference.

We’re so grateful for the amazing team and community across Georgia who continue to support our mission to grow mental health awareness throughout the film and entertainment world. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier creative future.
