ABOUT US

The Sonatina Center, LLC is a multi-disciplinary creative arts therapy practice that offers music therapy, art therapy, and creative arts enrichment programs to children and adults in New Hampshire. Our primary focus is to empower individuals of all ages, improve self-esteem, promote a positive sense of self-worth, support development, enhance wellness, inspire creative self-expression and connect with the community through music, art, movement, storytelling, and play. In our logo, and many of our public company materials, you will notice a dragonfly. The dragonfly is delicate, yet incredibly powerful and has the ability to adapt and transform. We believe that each of our clients has a unique dragonfly power within themselves. In our culture, the dragonfly represents grace, power and change in the perspective of self realization and we hope this symbolism invigorates you. OUR MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

As a culturally-centered practice, it is our mission to holistically support each individual by providing creative arts therapies through a culturally & contextually-aware lens. We value the arts and their natural place in healthcare. We strive to empower individuals of all ages through creative self-expression and promote the development of healthy relationships. We are devoted to our clients, our community and our own. We are family members ourselves, and employment with The Sonatina Center means being part of a family unit. In addition to helping our client families grow and develop, The Sonatina Center is devoted to the growth and development of each provider. Whether an employee, intern, or volunteer, continuing education and research-based practice lay the foundation for our work. We are committed to the growth of our profession and actively advocate for the creative arts therapies in health care. As a practice, we strive to design and implement effective therapeutic techniques that meet the client where they are, and co-create goals with clients for where they wish to go. Our goal is to act in the best interests of the individuals being served, under all circumstances, giving unconditional acceptance to clients in a safe, supportive and comfortable environment. We believe that each individual has a unique set of strengths, and we use these strengths to co-create individualized goals for therapy leading to positive experiences and growth. Exploring the cultural context of each individual’s lived experience and personhood is an indispensable part of therapy. We are committed to advocating for social justice and work hard to ensure that we do not silently condone the actions of others through our own inactions. We are committed to having tough conversations openly, honestly and without judgement. Each member of the team actively practices reflexivity and is committed to the ongoing improvement of our own multi-cultural competencies as helping professionals, taking actions that actively support the Black community, minoritized communities and antiracist work. We are committed to continually educating the public on the applications and outcomes of creative arts therapy and promoting the proven therapeutic value of professionally administered music and art therapy services from an educationally qualified and clinically trained therapist. We strive to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity, keep current on research, trends, repertoire, and techniques. OUR STORY

We are a team of music and art therapists offering unique creative arts therapies and creative arts enrichment classes for children and adults throughout our community. The Sonatina Center was founded by Marissa Scott in 2011, originally under the name, Sonatina Music Therapy. We saw our first clients in their homes, schools, and medical centers. As we have grown we have moved into a beautiful space in Dover, NH. Our newly expanded center houses six individual therapy rooms, two medium size therapy rooms perfect for intimate size groups and workshops, and an art room! Our accessible facility also houses a large waiting room, two private restrooms, a changing table, and plenty of on-site parking. We partner with many organizations in the community to bring music and art therapy to schools, hospitals, community centers and assisted living facilities.

But we want to hear from you:
πŸ‘‡ What would you tell a family who is hesitant to try music therapy?
Whether you're a parent who took the leap, a therapist who has seen the transformation, or someone who has experienced it firsthand β€” your words might be exactly what another family needs to hear.

Drop it in the comments. 🎡

We are SO excited to introduce you to one of our newest team members β€” Jessica Kaptcianos, MA, MT-BC! 🎡✨

Jess is a singer-songwriter and board-certified music therapist with 15 years of experience working with individuals and groups. She's been living and practicing in El Paso, Texas for the past five years, and she is making her way back to New England right in time for her favorite season. πŸ‚

As a therapist, Jess brings a deeply humanistic approach to her work β€” weaving in movement, dance, drawing, play, and musical games, and always prioritizing process over product. She believes in making music and the arts accessible to as many people as possible, and that philosophy shows up in everything she does.

When she's not in session, you might find her on a nature walk, journaling, or taking ballet or tap classes.

Thank you for yet another gorgeous photo!

We are so glad you're here, Jess. Welcome home. 🎢

Anxiety doesn't just live in your mind β€” it lives in your body, your breath, your nervous system. Music therapy meets it there. 🎡
Here are three ways we use music to help reduce anxiety at The Sonatina Center. Save this one if you or someone you love could use it.

Our Story

About Us... The Sonatina Center started out as Sonatina Music Therapy, a small practice owned and operated by one individual. The first music therapy services were provided in-homes and community organizations throughout New Hampshire. Since the opening of our doors in 2010, we have welcomed 3 new providers, moved into our current studio at 750 Central Ave, and added art therapy, pregnancy, birth and early childhood programs to our music therapy services. We have made friendships in our community and served over 800 individuals in the state of New Hampshire. We are a growing private practice located in Dover, New Hampshire. We provide unique arts-based therapies and developmental programs for children and families throughout Strafford County and our surrounding community. Our current programs include individual and group music therapy and art therapy for people of all ages, early childhood music classes, and doula services/music therapy assisted childbirth. Whether you are a mother-to-be expecting your first child or a family of four waiting to become a family of five, our doula and music therapy assisted childbirth services can provide a unique addition to your birth experience. Our music therapy and art therapy services can help individuals of all ages with a variety of concerns including: auditory processing, speech, communication, fine motor, gross motor, sensory processing, attention span, socialization, self esteem, acceptance, post traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, rehabilitation, pain, isolation, coping and so much more. Groove & Grow classes provide families with the ultimate early childhood family music experience! Our Mission... As a family-centered practice, it is our mission to wholly support the family system through arts-based therapies and developmental programs for children. We value the arts and their natural place in health care. We strive to empower individuals and families through creative self-expression and promote development of healthy relationships. We are devoted to our clients, our community and our own. We are family members ourselves, and employment with the Sonatina Center means being part of a family unit. In addition to helping our client families grow and develop, the Sonatina Center is devoted to the growth and development of each provider. Whether an employee, intern or volunteer, continuing education and research-based practice lay the foundation for our work. We are committed to the growth of our profession and actively advocate for arts in health care.
