Did you know that it's recommended that older adults complete 150 minutes of physical activity per week?

That includes light to moderate intensity activity. As we get older, tasks and activities of daily living can become more challenging. Exercise can help improve cardiovascular health, bone density, cognitive function, muscular strength and more!

At the Center for Athletes, our athletic trainers and exercise physiologists develop training programs that incorporate aerobic training, strength training, balance and flexibility. We offer programs ranging from 1 to 4 training sessions per week. Please call 603-749-6686 and select option 1 to register for the Center for Athletes.

• Saturday & Sunday: 8 am–1 pm

Our clinic is staffed by experienced orthopaedic physician assistants and sees nearly 40 patients per day.

The Wentworth-Douglass Foundation recently received a $100,000 grant from the Greater Rochester Community Health Foundation (GRCHF), which will support the construction of a dedicated operating room at our Women and Children’s Center, addressing a growing need for care in our community.

Congratulations to Molly Burke, MSN, RN, who works in the OBGYN Infertility Clinic in Portsmouth, on receiving the DAISY Award for her kindness and thoughtfulness while caring for patients. The special honor is given to extraordinary nurses for the compassionate contributions they make every day, going above and beyond expectations.

“From the moment she greeted me, she made sure I felt safe and supported," says a patient. "Molly brought me into a quiet and comfortable room, dimmed the lights, offered me water, and encouraged me to recline and relax. She took the time to sit down with me—not just to review the clinical plan, but to provide emotional support and reassurance that I genuinely needed in that moment. It meant so much to feel heard and understood.”

As a fellow nurse, the patient added she’ll never forget how Molly made her feel.

Congratulations to Melinda Linane, RN, DNP, who was honored as the Hats Off to Heroes recipient at the Boston Red Sox Nurses Night. The special Red Sox initiative recognizes members of the military, community leaders and social activists during home games at Fenway Park. Melinda was celebrated for her unwavering dedication to the field of nursing.

During , we're proud to celebrate the incredible nurses at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Heather Phelan, BSN, RN, CPN, staff nurse, Emergency Department, shares what inspired her to pursue a career in nursing: “I became a nurse to support people during some of the most profound moments of their lives. Patients come to the hospital during both joyful and challenging times, and it has been an honor to walk alongside them—from welcoming new life to offering comfort at the end of life. These deeply personal experiences are what I cherish most about nursing."

Heather goes on to say, "My goal has always been to provide the highest-quality care, treating and educating others as I would want my own family to be treated. Working at [Mass General Brigham] has empowered me to deliver this level of compassionate care within my community and positively impact the lives of many.”

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is planning to bring a new, full-service, 24/7 Emergency Department to Rochester, NH to provide services to an area where a significant number of patients live. Everything from the Dover location will be offered, including imaging, CT scans and a full-service lab.
