Dr. Marty Blane (newly elected board president) with the members of the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy. The board is composed of nine members appointed by the Governor of Tennessee. Dr. Blane was appointed by Governor Bill Lee in 2022. The board oversees the licensure and operations of over 15,000 Pharmacists, over 21,000 Pharmacy Technicians, over 3000 Pharmacies, in addition to Manufacturers, Wholesalers, Distributors, Third-party logistic providers, Oxygen suppliers, Researchers, Drug Detection Animal Trainers, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and Oncology Clinic Automated Dispensing Systems. The board adopts, amends, and repeals rules, establishes qualifications for licensure, enforces laws and regulations, inspects pharmacy sites, takes disciplinary action, and conducts hearings.
Dr. Blane also serves as Chairman of the Tennessee Controlled-Substance Monitoring Database Committee, which oversees the monitoring of all prescribing and dispensing of controlled-substance products in the state. The committee is composed of physicians, a nurse practitioner, a dentist, a physician assistant, a podiatrist, a veterinarian, an optometrist, and two public members.
