We recently had the pleasuring of Secretary Walker and staff of Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) stopping by the lab for a tour and overview of our services.

Secretary Walker toured Doctors Pathology Services (DPS) on Aug. 2 with founder and medical director, Dr. Venkataraman Sukumar. Doctors Pathology Services, which opened its first free-standing laboratory in 2003, also operates the only licensed mobile pathology service in the country, with a total of 30 employees. It is the largest surgery center-based service in the country and the largest women’s health pathology service in the state, primarily testing pap smears and biopsies with a fast turnaround time and results sent to the Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) in real time. Sukumar said the company’s Point of Care Mobile Pathology Service brings immediate diagnosis to patients’ bedside, including in Delaware’s prisons, improving patient care and their piece of mind, and reducing costs.
