Yesterday we had the opportunity to share about OCD in our community. We joined area mental health organizations, hospitals, and practices who all serve a similar common goal toward bettering mental health resources and support in Delaware.

What are obsessions?

Obsessions in OCD are “unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that may be extreme or disturbing.” The obsessions are often accompanied by uncomfortable feelings such as fear, disgust, doubt, or a feeling that things have to be ”just right.”

These obsessions occur over and over again and feel out of the person’s control.

2025 was our first year as an organization, and it was an honor to see how much movement just one year could make.

Our first OCD walk, held at New Castle Battery Park, had over 100 registered attendees and raised a total of $5,800 to benefit both the IOCDF and OCD Delaware. We also presented our first Youth and Impact Awards to two deserving individuals.

During OCD Awareness Week, Legislative Hall in Dover was lit teal, and Governor Matt Meyer recognized the week for the first year in Delaware. We also received media coverage from Coastal Point newspaper and Delaware Online.

Our takeaway from this year is one of gratitude.

That hope can exist alongside even our greatest difficulties and that there is so much light in guiding this work toward greater understanding of OCD together đź’™

OCD Awareness Week 2025: Educate, Advocate, Resonate.

This week, Hopewell joins the global effort, led by the International OCD Foundation, to shed light on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) — a condition often misunderstood yet deeply impactful for millions. Join us in our efforts to:

đź’ˇ Educate- by sharing accurate information and breaking down misconceptions about OCD.
~~You are not alone: Hopewell offers residential treatment set in a therapeutic farm community for adults struggling with OCD by utilizing evidence-based programming & best practice standards through Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy among other modalities.

📢 Advocate- for compassion, access to care, and a stigma-free understanding of mental health.
~~Call to Action: Recently Hopewell staff & residents joined OCD MIDWEST in their Akron/ Canton OCD walk to help spread awareness and access to resources for families struggling with OCD.

🤝 Resonate- by amplifying real voices and lived experiences that remind us healing is possible.
~~Hopewell Resident Testimonial: "Since working in the ERP Program at Hopewell, I am more at peace, more positive, and have more energy...over time I was able to increase exposures and decrease distress and anxiety...the group work every day was very helpful, and I felt the support from peers."

Together, we can foster understanding, support, and hope for everyone affected by OCD. For more information on our services please visit our website at hopewellcommunity.org or call our admissions team at 440-426-2009.
