ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action

ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action This is ROOM’s view: Strengthening the continuity of our community by sharing meaning where we find it is analytic action.

11/12/2025

ROOM 10.25 is out now.

This issue gathers voices from across continents, each writing from a split screen—between devastation and daily life, between the personal and the political, between language and what exceeds it.

With contributions from Dr. Mohamed Omran Abu Shawish, Dr. A*z a-Din, Heba Al-Turk, Dana Amir, Patrick Cole, Caleb Cobra Cornell, Karim G. Dajani, Mira Erlich-Ginor, Eiman Hussein, Susan Cortilet Jones, Celeste Kelly, Irwin Kula, Oleksandra Kurbala, JT Mikulka, Sonni Mun, Jyoti M. Rao, Dr. Helena Vissing, and Andrea Luka Zimmerman; poetry by Nan Cohen and Natasha Kinsella; and art by Joyce Pommer and Cynthia Sparrenberger, this issue illuminates the space where speech meets silence, hope meets despair, and rupture meets repair.

We are thrilled and deeply honored to share that ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action has been named a recipient of The Sigourney Award, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the field of psychoanalysis and mental health.

This extraordinary honor validates what we’ve built together since 2016: a living, cyclical ecosystem where individual expression evolves into collective dialogue and generates real-world change.

The Sigourney Award recognizes not only what we’ve accomplished, but the uniquely analytic and democratic community space we’ve created—founded on the understanding that genuine change emerges from the freedom and safety to be heard and known anew.

This week, Aneta and Isaac speak with Kissu Taffere, a licensed clinical social worker whose clinical focus centers on women in BIPOC and immigrant communities. Taffere was laid off from a refugee resettlement organization shortly after the Trump administration came into office. She unpacks the roles of silence on the cultural and individual level, highlighting where it can be used to protect those who are vulnerable and where it is used in an effort to protect authoritarian and colonial power.
