👄 Chewing and drinking are learned motor skills.
Difficulty chewing, drinking from cups, or managing food can be a skill-based issue, not stubbornness.
Some children struggle with:
• Chewing efficiently
• Moving food side-to-side
• Managing textures
• Drinking from cups or straws
Feeding therapy targets the oral motor skills needed for safe, effective eating, including jaw strength, tongue movement, lip closure, and coordination.
When these skills improve, mealtimes become safer, less stressful, and more successful for both children and families.
