Help us congratulate firefighter/paramedic Brandon Fewell for completing his probationary period. His Captains presented him with his “Firefighter” shield which is known to be a right of passage.

Brandon always has a positive attitude and is resilient, two values that form the foundation of this career! He was surrounded by his family and his crew at FIre Station 1 on the B-Shift where he cooked his “Last meal.”

Downey Fire Department requires their firefighters to complete an 18 month probationary period where they demonstrate proficiency in their skills, take multiple tests, and learn the ins and outs of the fire station life. Congratulations FFPM Fewell!🫡👨🏻‍🚒

Today we were honored to host a badge pinning for Thomas Foskarino. Thomas is from Downey, was an Explorer, and today he is an Engineer. On-duty crews and family were present.

All lanes of traffic on Firestone Blvd. have been reopened. The localized power outage remains in the area, with traffic signals affected. Please use caution driving in the area. Southern California Edison crews are in scene performing repairs.

Downey Fire Department units are no longer on scene. There will be no further updates.

WESTBOUND FIRESTONE BLVD. IS NOW OPEN. EASTBOUND LANES REMAIN CLOSED.
THERE IS A LOCALIZED POWER OUTAGE IN THE AREA. TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE AFFECTED. PLEASE DRIVE SAFE.

Downey Fire Department is currently on scene of an incident at Firestone Blvd. and La Reina Ave. All lanes of Firestone Blvd. are shut down between Paramount Blvd. and Downey Ave. Updates will be provided when the road reopens.

Congratulations to Fire Inspector Donovan Romero!

Today, Donovan Romero, one of our own Fire Inspectors, graduated from the Verdugo Fire Academy’s Firefighter 1 Basic Fire Academy, Class 28. Donovan was honored as the final class Battalion Chief. Additionally, he received the final block leadership award.

Thank you to the Arcadia Firefighters' Association (AFFA) IAFF Local 3440 for honoring Donovan with a scholarship to honor the memory of fallen Fire Captain Andy Troncale. We know he will represent his legacy well. 

We are proud of Donovan‘s accomplishment and honored to have him represent our community, the Downey Fire Department, and our City.

Commercial Fire

Units from Downey and Santa Fe Springs responded to a commercial fire on the 10000 block of Lakewood.

The fire is out and is pending investigation.

Currently, due to an investigation, the right turn lane on north bound Brookshire and the number three lane on east bound Firestone are closed. Avoid the area.

The City of Downey is distributing free sandbags to help residents stay ready for the rain. Sandbags are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The City of Downey’s Operation Santa was a massive success, and it’s all thanks to the incredible power of community! Seeing our city come together so as many children as possible have smiles on their face this season is what the holidays are truly about.
