I am in the business of helping moms achieve happiness and health. Women's bodies go through so much, from conception to birth. Emotional eating… something that we all do at times; however, when it starts to become consistent, that’s when it can lead to trouble.

In last week’s episode of The Confident Mama Podcast, I spoke with Bethany Gettis, owner of Nutritious & Delicious, about:

✨4 reasons why women emotionally eat
✨and how to prevent emotionally eating

You may have overindulged on delicious food yesterday. And maybe you told yourself that you just won’t eat today. However, that is not the best thing to do. Restricting food is a surefire way to lead to binging. This can lead to an endless cycle.

Instead, don’t skip meals and make them nutritious. Drink some extra water today and move your body. Don’t punish yourself for enjoying the holiday yesterday. Take care of your body.

Unfortunately, we are bombarded with societal pressures and stressors that make it difficult to feel confident in our postpartum bodies. So here are 5 ways to love and accept your body after having a baby:

❤️instead of focusing on the things about your body that you may not feel great about, focus on all the wonderful things that your body has done for you. Replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.
❤️Find something else to do besides hanging out on social media. I like to think of social media as Russian roulette. You never know how it will make you feel when you get on. One second you could feel wonderful because everyone Is commenting on your photo of your new baby and the next second You could find yourself feeling jealous or comparing yourself to someone.
❤️put the scale away. I very rarely recommend anyone using the scale but I never recommend new moms using one. Just put it away.
❤️Your pre-baby clothes probably won’t fit you right away. Totally normal! So go buy some clothes that fit and make you feel amazing.
❤️move your body. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy but sitting inside all day feeding your baby and changing dirty diapers can feel overwhelming. Have someone watch the baby and go for a walk outside. Or, once you have healed, find a form of movement that you enjoy (gym, cycling, tennis, swimming etc). Move your body every single day.

✨If you are newly postpartum and looking for one-on-one support in the areas of balanced nutrition, exercise, self-care and body confidence, than email me at hello@lisacatherinecoaching.com to chat!

“Being present and exerting our ability to be mindful not only makes us happier, it can also help us:
✨deal with pain more effectively,
✨reduce our stress and decrease its impact on our health,
✨and improve our ability to cope with negative emotions like fear and anger. (Halliwell, 2017).”

I am playing catch-up. I scheduled my podcast episodes to be released when I was on maternity leave but I never posted them here.

It’s been 7 weeks…

I can’t believe it! It’s been 7 weeks since miss Peyton Rae made her first appearance and we became a family of 5. Time has flown by!

I have taken some time off from social media and podcasting to be with the family but I am slowly coming back.

Our bodies, just like our lives, are allowed to change.

I hear from moms all the time that they want to have their pre-pregnancy body back. Well, would you want your pre-pregnancy life back? Would you give up your children to have your pre-pregnancy body? I hope not!

Instead of pining for the past, accept the present. Learn how to love your body and feel confident in your body how it is now. It is okay to want change and to have goals but when these goals come from a place of self-love rather than self-hatred or jealousy, than they will be much easier to achieve.

Right now I am almost 39 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child (3 under 4). I am not going to lie, it has not always been an easy journey watching my body grow and change so drastically within the past 4 years. I know that other moms feel the same way too SO I decided to share my top 6 tips that I practice daily to help me feel confident in and love my pregnant body. These tips are not only for pregnancy but for postpartum as well.

This is an affirmation that I repeat daily.

Despite what society says, it is okay and completely normal for our bodies to change. It is not always easy to see the change but it doesn’t mean that we aren’t beautiful.

As I look back on this pregnancy, I think about how much has changed within these past 9 months. My body has grown. I’m not talking about weight. I’m talking about a human being. And I am SO thankful for this body, the way that it is RIGHT NOW, even with the discomfort.

As I prepare for birth and afterwards, I continue to remind myself how wonderful my body is. I know that negative thoughts about my new, postpartum body will arise but I also know that the gratitude and love that I have for my body outweighs those negative thoughts and will shut those thoughts up.

So next time you find yourself thinking negative thoughts about your body, remind yourself of all that it has done for you.❤️
