After 35 years in the business many of my clients are dear, dear friends. 💕 We have been through so much together. But ultimately, it is my job to make sure that you receive not only a medically advanced skin care treatment but a quiet moment for yourself. When you just seem a little bit stressed, I will often not ask questions to protect your peace.

I will often quickly ask “Have there been any medical changes you need to tell me about?” and once that’s been cleared we will quickly move on.

In my personal life I always wanna talk about “you.” I wanna know every detail of how things are going; I want to know how your children are doing at school and how your cat is doing after his surgery and how your parents are getting along at their new house. 😜 But when you are on the table and you ask how my children are I will often not respond in kind. I will not ask about your kids. It is the hardest thing to do because I absolutely want to know about your life. But I don’t want you spending the next hour chatting. I want you to relax. 😌

I am often talking about the things that you can do in my treatment room to improve the look of your skin. Facials that include physical exfoliation such as dermaplaning or microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliatiants such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid, and hydration treatment such as hyaluronic acid or peptides are all important steps for your skin health.

There are a few other things that you can do during your life to improve the appearance of your skin. Staying out of the sun is probably the most important step. ☀️The sun changes the pigment of your skin as well as the texture which both lead to advanced appearances of aging.

Smoking also leads to an increase in laxity which will make your skin appear more advanced in age. As I mentioned in the video, if there’s any way you can let it go that would be best for your appearance, not to mention the other health aspects.

Micellar water, when used on a cotton pad, is great for removing tough makeup such as lipstick or mascara, but is inadequate to use as an overall facial cleanser. Pore clogging and irritating, micellar water is responsible for causing many milia, pimples and pustules. As an aesthetician, my recommendation is that you first remove your eye makeup and lipstick with a cotton soaked in micellar water. Then follow up washing the entire face with a gel based cleanser.

i’m not sure how this happened but as I was about to take off the mask when I saw “her.” A tiny little image on the tip of my client’s nose. How sweet.

There’s no doubt that taking a little time for yourself can help you break down your adult learned walls. We are all working so hard to be strong, efficient, effective and powerful. But inside many of us are the same sweet, slightly nervous, curious children that we were years ago.

Treat yourself. Treat yourself kindly. Treat yourself often. Treat yourself to a facial.

Laser hair removal is a great treatment for significantly thinning unwanted hair off your body. This can be done in so many different areas such as a man’s back, or for the ladies their bikini line, underarms and legs.

This time of year a lot of clients consider taking a hair growth supplement to make the hair on their head much thicker and fuller. I understand that desire but I also want to warn you that the ramifications may be significant. You may regrow hair in areas that you spent thousands of dollars to previously treat. You may regrow all of that hair. 😱

I have seen it time and time again. A patient will have very satisfactory results and will have maintained those results for years and then suddenly, boom, everything comes back. What happened? When I talked to the patient a lot of times they will reveal they started taking Nutraful or Hair Skin and Nails supplements.

it’s best to protect your investment of all the laser hair removal treatments you have done. Consider topical products such as minoxidil or any other prescription recommended by your dermatologist.

And I invite you to continue to ask me all these questions. It’s a safe place in my treatment room to ask anything you want.

Many set New Year’s resolutions and I am proud of those who do. There may be slight side effects to the positive changes and I’m here to help you on your skin care journey.

💠 Resolution # 1 - Lose Weight
Losing weight quickly may negatively affect your skin’s elasticity so I recommend a slow, steady approach to your healthy eating program or to your medicated weight loss journey.

💠 Resolution #2 - Start Retinol
Many clients get motivated to restart a previously developed program that somehow found its way under the bathroom sink. When you pull out those products, remember to re-start the gentle products first to avoid potential side effects such as redness, burning, dryness or irritation. Then, after a few weeks, slowly reintroduce the strong products… one at a time. Strong products might include Vitamin C serums, retinol, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, Lactic or Glycolic acid.

Resolution # 3 - Take your Vitamins
And finally let’s talk about your daily pills. Good for your body, sure, but some vitamins may flush your skin. Vitamin B3 (Niacin) may dilate blood vessels and give the skin a just-a-bit-too-pink appearance. CoQ10 is also one that might cause redness, especially if you already have rosacea. Speak to your nutritionist if you experience any significant vitamin induced side effects.

💠 Here’s a great tip for a great skin care resolution. Schedule your monthly facials ahead of time with your Doylestown aesthetician. She’s pretty busy these days 😉

My third skin care tip for dry winter skin is called Slugging. It is the newest social media craze for a skin care trend that many older clients have been actually doing for a long time. By applying a final layer of extra rich or “greasy” product to protect and hydrate your dry skin, slugging works well with the following products :

Vaseline
Aquaphore
Cerave Healing Ointment

or any other thick moisturizer

But please heed my warning. This treatment could easily trigger a breakout response. If you have had even one blemish in the last year I recommend you seriously minimize how often you slug. There is a very high risk of breakout with this technique.

Don’t do it! 🤣 I know how tempting it is. Those products look so beautiful and so completely available. You’ve heard of retinol and you’ve heard of high or something acid and you think maybe it’s gonna be OK. Why not? Give it a try! 🙄 (Please don’t!)

Believe me I have seen way too many Marshalls incidences. Do yourself a favor and buy products that you know are right for your skin. Don’t just wing it with your face.

Products are so much fun but when they go wrong you want to know exactly which product was the problem. If you have recently introduced a whole slew of products you might have to throw them all away and lose a lot of money. Best practice is to introduce one product at a time… never more than one per month. That will help you know if your skin is having a bad reaction.
