During Black Maternal Health Week, we uplift the voices, lived experiences, leadership, and solutions of Black mothers and birthing people. This week isn’t just about awareness it’s about action, advocacy, equity, and honoring Black-led care. 🤎

This week, I’m honored to support the Black Women’s Coalition of Philadelphia and give back to an incredible foundation, A Home From Shana. They provide a safe space for pregnant women facing homelessness right here in Philly.

I’m putting together postpartum care boxes for these mamas because support shouldn’t stop after birth. As Black women, we deserve to be cared for, seen, and supported every step of the way.

It’s not just about the baby smiling, rolling, or sleeping through the night — it’s about the person who just gave birth learning how to exist in a brand-new body, mind, and season of life.

The 4th trimester is:

If I could give one piece of advice for the immediate postpartum period, it would be this: don’t do it alone.

From my experience as a mom, a surrogate, and a professional, these are my top three must-have supports during postpartum:

✨ Postpartum Doula
Hands-on support for rest, recovery, newborn care, nourishment, and easing the daily load so you can heal.

✨ Lactation Consultant
Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, combo feeding, or just need reassurance — early lactation support can make a world of difference.

✨ Mental Health Professional
Postpartum is not just physical — it’s emotional, hormonal, and mental. Having support in this area is just as important as caring for your body.

And most importantly… have your tribe 🤍
Your partner, family, friends, community — people who will show up, check in, hold space, and support you without judgment.

Postpartum is a season of vulnerability, transition, and growth. You deserve to be supported through it — not expected to “bounce back.”

🪻Beyond The Bump Gives Back – June Donation Drive!

🪻This June, Beyond The Bump is proud to support an incredible organization: Mothers’ Home—a Residential Maternity Shelter that offers support to pregnant women over 18 who are homeless or in crisis and do not have other children in their care.

🪻I recently had the privilege of meeting an inspiring 18-year-old mom-to-be during one of my own appointments. She lives at Mothers’ Home and graciously shared her story with me. Her strength and resilience moved me deeply—and inspired this month’s giving campaign.

🪻Mothers’ Home provides:
• Safe, temporary housing
• Life skills & parenting classes
• Job readiness & counseling services
• Prenatal and postnatal health education
• Childbirth and child development classes
• Housing & legal assistance
• Nutrition and budgeting education
• Baby and personal essentials
• A strong peer support network

This is where we come in.
I’ve chosen Mothers’ Home as the recipient of our June Postpartum Boxes!

Back in March, we made 26 postpartum boxes and donated 18 boxes of diapers to Cay Galgon House—and we’re doing it again!
