ABOUT MBSR: The program was developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at UMass
Memorial Medical Center. It is considered an evidence-based program, supported
by 40+ years of research, and teaches participants to cultivate present-moment
awareness through systematic training in mindfulness practices.
Core practices include mindfulness of breath and body, body
scan meditation, sitting meditation to work skillfully with thoughts and
emotions, mindful movement (gentle hatha yoga), and walking meditation.
Participants learn informal mindfulness to integrate into daily activities such as eating,
communication, and responding to stress.
BENEFITS: Research Studies have shown that participation in MBSR can support
improvements in:
# Anxiety, Sleep problems, Depressive symptoms, Chronic pain and pain-related
distress
# Perceived stress, Emotional reactivity, supporting greater resilience in daily life
# Improves digestive problems, High blood pressure
WHO CAN JOIN: Open to all adults. No prior meditation or yoga experience is required
WHAT TO EXPECT: 8 WEEKLY live Sessions (2.5 hour each) + 1 All-day Retreat (on a
weekend). Participants receive educational material and multiple recordings of
guided practices.
