On this day in 1932, the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation opened its first crime lab in a single room with one examiner and a borrowed microscope. 90+ years later, it's become one of the largest and most advanced forensic labs in the world, processing hundreds of thousands of evidence items each year.

A 2015 sexual assault case involving a 13-year-old resulted in a conviction. Sorenson Forensics conducted the paternity testing and the results were entered as evidence.
Even with the time that has passed, the resolution of this case is an important step for the investigation and those involved.

A 60-year-old man accused of impregnating a 13-year-old girl a decade ago was convicted this month of child r**e.
