Five years ago, I changed my own life and became determined to help others do the same. I love using cutting edge therapies and treatments, along with good, old-fashioned common sense, to help patients reach their highest potential. How much protein do you need? 💪

The old recommended daily allowance (RDA) said 0.8 g/kg per day was enough but newer studies show this is untrue. ❎

Adults need at least 1.2 g/kg per day of protein to prevent muscle breakdown. ✅

and have a great podcast on this subject and recommend closer to 2 g/kg per day to build muscle.

To calculate, take your weight in pounds and divide by 2.2. That's your weight in kilograms. Then multiply by 2 to get your optimal daily protein dose.

I've started adding more protein shakes since I can't seem to get enough from food. 🍶

How are you getting your protein? What's your daily goal? ❓

P.S. if you're overweight, use your ideal body weight to calculate the dose.

Surgical menopause is NOT the same as natural menopause. ❎

The speed of hormonal decline is different.
The degree of hormone decline is different.
The fact that testosterone goes down by 25-50% when ovaries are removed but NOT when ovaries remain is different.

"Just get a new doctor" 🤔

My mom's GP dislikes that she's still taking estradiol and progesterone... So why not just get a new doctor?

My mom is lucky because she's getting her hormones prescribed elsewhere.

But what about other women whose doctors won't prescribe hormone optimization therapy? What are some options?

🔺Get a new primary care physician or gynecologist
🔺 Use a telehealth prescribing service for hormone therapy only
🔺 Find a "longevity" or "health optimisation" provider who prioritizes prevention and "optimal not normal"
🔺 Help your primary doctor get educated by (gently) recommending courses, references, etc Share my Substack with your doctor. I provide deep dives and have tons of references for medical providers.

What have you tried? What's worked? What hasn't worked? ❓

Dear Mom... 🌹

I'm sorry your doctor made you feel guilty for taking estradiol and progesterone.

I'm sorry your doctor was not up to date on the literature.

I'm sorry that the FDA's warning label on estrogen made the misinformation around hormone therapy worse.

I appreciate that you listened to me, despite the fear they threw at you.

I'm grateful that at age 79 you have no ongoing medical problems, have a clear mind, clean arteries and a responsive metabolism.

I hope your GP doctor sees what a healthy woman looks like and stops making women feel guilty for choosing to make hormone therapy a part of their longevity programs. 🌷

Vaginal estrogen is quite safe for most women but that doesn't mean it always stays in the va**na.

Studies show that if you put higher doses of estrogen into the va**na it will increase your blood estradiol levels. 🤔

Usually, the low doses of estradiol or estriol that are only used 2-3 days per week to treat GSM symptoms don't increase serum estradiol in a clinically meaningful way.

But, if you're applying more than the typical localized estrogen dose, are also applying a "low dose" to your face or are particularly sensitive you might notice high estrogen symptoms (and should definitely take progesterone to protect the uterus).

Does this make sense? ❓
