❗️❗️❗️🚑Severe Snow & Ice Storm Emergency Reminder❗️❗️❗️
During heavy snow and ice storms, please only call for an ambulance for true life-threatening emergencies.
Ambulances and other emergency vehicles have to operate in the same dangerous road conditions as everyone else. Even with trained drivers and specialized equipment, ice-covered roads, low visibility, blocked streets, and traffic accidents can severely delay response times. Calling for non-critical issues can tie up crews who may be needed for someone whose life is in immediate danger.
Call 911 right away for:
• Chest pain or signs of a heart attack
• Trouble breathing or severe shortness of breath
• Signs of stroke (face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
• Severe bleeding that won’t stop
• Unconsciousness
• Serious head injuries
• Seizures
• Major trauma (car crashes, bad falls, etc.)
For non-life-threatening issues:
• Contact your primary care provider, urgent care, or telehealth if available
• Use home care measures when appropriate
• Ask a pharmacy about over-the-counter options
• Wait until road conditions improve if it’s safe to do so
Important: If you are unsure whether it’s an emergency, you can still call 911 — dispatchers are trained to help determine urgency. Never risk driving yourself in dangerous conditions if symptoms are severe.
Please also check on elderly neighbors, people with disabilities, and anyone who may not be able to get help easily.
Staying mindful about when to call helps ensure emergency crews can reach those who need them most. Stay safe and stay warm. ❄️
