Happy summer y’all! 😎 It’s an honor to support local families through speech therapy and we love being able to offer convenient in-home services for children. We treat a variety of speech and language difficulties including Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), Phonological Disorders, other Speech Sound Disorders as well as Language Delays and Disorders. We recently posted about signs of a language disorder. As speech pathologists we also treat speech sound disorders. Very commonly these days we see kiddos with complex speech sound disorders who are very difficult to understand. This can be frustrating for all involved, especially the child. Let us know if your child is struggling and just not meeting those speech milestones and/or showing frustration when not being understood. We love to help little ones communicate clearly at home with their families!

Feeling curious today, and would like to know where your interests lie in terms of our content. There are so many directions we could go with social media for our small business. So, just thought we’d ask the audience…

It’s Word Meaning Wednesday!

Today’s words are: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

There is so much we could share and discuss related to ASD. In no way, shape or form can we bring enough light to these words and other related terminology.

There are individuals in your midst who understand these words on a deep level- whether they, their loved one, child, co-worker, etc. lives with this diagnosis (or even without a technical diagnosis). We believe there is value in understanding these words just a little bit more.

From where we sit, we can simply share the absolute joy and honor in meeting autistic kiddos who are needing speech/language services.

As far as a social media post goes, we feel we can realistically only provide a tiny sliver of information on the full meaning of Autism.

So here’s a sliver…

Below are a couple definitions taken from online sources: Autism Awareness Centre and Mayo Clinic

Autism Awareness Centre:

Definition of Autism

“Autism is a lifelong, non progressive neurological disorder typically appearing before the age of three years. The word “autism” means a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction.”

Mayo Clinic:

Autism Spectrum Disorder

“Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition related to brain development that impacts how a person perceives and socializes with others, causing problems in social interaction and communication. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior. The term “spectrum” in ASD refers to the wide range of symptoms and severity.”

Don’t stop here- we’d encourage anyone interested to look a little deeper into these meanings.

We love helping little ones learn as we also teach and coach their family to support new skills 🧸

⭐️Please let us know if you have a little one who is not talking, using a limited vocabulary, or struggling

⭐️to produce speech sounds. Difficulty with speech and language can impact general well-being by

⭐️increasing stress for a child and his or her family members. We advocate for early intervention and

⭐️preschool services to teach little ones new skills using play and their interests- this keeps visits fun!
