We are so grateful for the generosity that continues to surround this great project - our memorial outdoor classroom. Eddie’s Lawn and Landscaping with the help of Melissa Ritz, volunteered to donate and deliver the stone where our plaque will be mounted. Eddie Jr. showed up bright and early to deliver and place the stone. Another Drums parent will forever be a part of our story. In the next week, I will mount our plaque honoring Caden to this stone. The outdoor classroom and this plaque will ensure that Caden will not be forgotten. We will soon announce a date in the next few weeks when we can properly dedicate and open this space. Stay tuned!

This day will always be the day we lost you. But this year, four years later, something is different. We continue to feel the loss but we can also celebrate your life with a memorial, the Drums Elementary Outdoor Classroom. Cade is probably laughing at the irony of a classroom as a memorial because he was not the best student. He didn’t love school. But I believe this memorial represents so much more. Solid, concrete, and forever is the love a parent has for their child, the love siblings have for their brother, the sympathy and friendship one person has for another, and the support and generosity a community has for their own. It’s a fairly simple structure and if people don’t know the story behind it, it will simply provide them with shade or protection form the rain, but if you know the story, you’ll know how immensely meaningful this beautiful structure is to my family and the people that continue to love and miss Cade just as we do. 💚🌊🪐

Thank you everyone for your kind words and well wishes for what would have been Cade’s 20th birthday. Maybe it’s a coincidence or something else, but an article was in the paper yesterday about our memorial outdoor classroom project. This is what we do as humans…we turn tragedy into triumph…sadness into happiness. I can’t thank this community enough for the love, friendship, kindness, sympathy, generosity, and sacrifice that went into this project. I’m sure Cade approves. His memory will live on as so many of our Drums kids will enjoy this structure. They will laugh and learn here just as Cade did. We can’t wait to see it take shape some time in August!

And a special thank you to the Cunniffe family for their generous donation of $40,000 via their late uncle, Bill Flaim. Becky taught their son, Nick, at Country Charm and I taught both Nick and Kaiden in 5th grade. This is just another example of how we are so closely tied together as a community. If you see these amazing people out and about, please thank them for their generosity!
