It is with deep love and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan E. (Dunlap) Spafford, who left us peacefully in the early hours of January 29, 2026, at the age of 90, in the care and comfort of the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born on November 14, 1935, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late David and Florence (Overdorf) Dunlap.
Joan lived a life defined by compassion, faith, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was a devoted military wife, a proud mother and grandmother, and a woman of strength and steadfast determination. Her heart was one of endless giving — she found joy in caring for others and always put family at the center of everything she did.
Joan’s fiery spirit, resilience, and deep faith were the cornerstones of her life. Those fortunate enough to know her will remember her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering faith.
Joan, along with her husband Del, ran the day to day operations of the family business, Spafford Landscaping.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in DuBois and was active with her husband in the ESGR, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Joan also loved to clean and maintained an immaculate yard. Above all, she loved her family, especially her granddaughters Grace and Jessica.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dealvia “Del” Spafford; daughter, Michelle Askey and her husband Edward and granddaughters, Grace Askey, Jessica Askey, and Rachel Gardner.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Hilliard, and son, Richard Gardner.
Though Joan may no longer walk beside us, her love will forever surround us. Her faith, strength, and unwavering spirit will continue to live through her endless memories.
