Marshall Browning Hospital (MBH) is a fully accredited, not-for-profit Critical Access Hospital. The Hospital has 25 private acute-care beds and a workforce of over 300 employees. MBH is your community healthcare provider, situated on a beautiful 17-acre campus that includes a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, and two rural health clinics: Marshall Browning Medical Clinic and the East Medical Clinic. The East Medical Clinic provides family medicine, surgery, and podiatry services. Marshall Browning Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient care; emergency, medical and surgical services, lab, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and 19 specialty clinics. Our mission is to improve the health and quality of life for the people and communities we serve. Our vision is to be the hospital of choice for our community by providing exceptional patient care and outstanding service. Marshall Browning Hospital is proud of its many achievements, and above all, its friendly and family-like atmosphere. MBH has received accreditation from The Joint Commission as a result of its demonstrated compliance with The Joint Commission's nationally recognized healthcare standards. In addition, MBH offers a variety of specialty clinics that include 17 specialists from the Southern Illinois and St. This enables patients who require specialist services to remain in their local community without needing to travel out of town. Current specialty clinics offered include Cardiology, Coumadin Clinic, Dietitian Consultation, Diabetes Educator, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/Hepatology, Nephrology, Pain Management, Podiatry, Pulmonology/Sleep Clinic, Rheumatology, General Surgery, Urology, and Wound Clinic. From pediatrics to seniors, Marshall Browning Hospital is dedicated to making you feel secure, knowing that you or your loved one will receive the best medical care possible from qualified and compassionate staff. Our Swing Bed patients not only receive physical, occupational, and speech therapy but also wound care and skilled nursing to support healing. An important part of recovery includes participating in activities that bring joy, laughter, and community. Recently, our patients have been enjoying crafts, bingo, and movies in our conference room, along with snacks and popcorn. These activities help keep minds sharp, spirits high, and friendships developing. These moments of joy and connection make our Swing Bed program truly special.

Swing Bed patients come to us from hospitals throughout the region, including Southern Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana. The program is designed for patients who are stable enough to leave the acute hospital setting but are not yet ready to go home. These patients are typically recovering from a serious accident, injury, or illness, including post-surgical care such as joint replacement, or require ongoing IV therapy. Our program helps ensure a smooth transition from hospital care to regaining independence at home.

From therapy sessions to fun activities, we do everything we can to make each patient’s stay as enjoyable and uplifting as possible. Whether it’s working toward recovery goals or simply sharing a game and a laugh, we’re honored to be part of their journey.

William was transferred to our Swing Bed program from a St. Louis hospital following major surgery. He needed physical therapy and occupational therapy for strengthening, as well as care for a chest drain. After a two-week stay, we were pleased that he was strong enough to go home. We wish him the best as he continues his recovery. Thank you for choosing us, William.

Our Swing Bed program provides a solution for patients requiring short-term rehabilitation or skilled nursing care. We're excited to welcome Halee Essick* to our Medical Clinic! Halee is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a nursing background in the ICU and expertise in managing high-acuity pulmonary and critical care patients.

Halee starts on November 3. She will be caring for patients of all ages and offering a variety of services, from primary care to women's health, routine screenings to medication management.

This week is Infection Prevention Week. A big thank you to our incredible Infection Prevention and Employee Health Director, Randi. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our patients, visitors, and staff safe every day. Her work helps prevent the spread of infection, promotes best practices, and ensures a healthy environment for everyone who comes through our doors.
