✨ Fairview Park Hospital is proud to recognize— Cristy Balom Daniels, PCT as our Q4 2025 BEE Award Winner! 🐝

Cristy is recognized by both staff and patients for the exceptional care she provides as a Patient Care Technician here at our hospital!

Our team often says that if Cristy has their patient, they never worry. She brings positivity to every shift, keeping spirits high even during the busiest times. Cristy isn’t just an incredible caregiver. She’s also a team player who is always ready to jump in and help, whether the patient assignment is hers or not. On top of that, she consistently shares thoughtful ideas to improve our unit for both patients and staff.

Here’s what one teammate shared about Cristy:

“Cristy always goes over and beyond for her patient. I never worry about the patient I share with her because I know they are in the best of hands. She thinks of all the little things, from brushing their hair to giving them a warm cloth to wash their face with in the morning. She’s quick to jump up and help, it does not even have to be her patient. I love working shifts with her.”

Cristy, thank you for your compassion, care, and heart for service. You truly embody what it means to provide excellent patient care. 💛

Here’s to you, Cristy! 🎉

Please help us celebrate our January Employee of the Month, Kassidie Ragan 🌟

Kassidie joined our team from Meadows Medical Center and has quickly become an invaluable part of our Fairview Park Hospital respiratory team! As one of our charge therapists on night shift, she consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership, clinical skill, and teamwork — earning constant recognition from all of our staff.

Kassidie lives out our mission every single day. She works every weekend with unwavering dedication to our patients and her colleagues. She has played a meaningful role in advancing our goals in caring for the pulmonary population and continually goes above and beyond to ensure the best outcomes for those we serve!

Not only does she support our patients, but she is also one of the strongest supporters of her coworkers — always recognizing their hard work and stepping in wherever needed. It’s no surprise that during this year’s RT Week Superlatives, Kassidie received the most votes overall and was honored with:

Breaking ground in life-saving technology at Fairview Park Hospital!🫀

Fairview closed out heart month in a BIG way - placing its first ever leadless pacemaker, resulting in a life saved and a breakthrough use of technology in Fairview’s OR!

Dr. Jonathan Brock, one of Fairview Park Hospital’s newest credentialed Elctrophysiologists and the newest partner of Dr. Oddis, Dr. Hoffman, and Dr. Horne, performed his first procedure at Fairview and in Dublin-Laurens County in a big way last week - he literally walked through the doors, ran straight to the OR, and utilized the leadless pacemaker for the first time ever in our facility. All to make positive life change for a patient in immediate need.

What is a leadless pacemaker and what advantages does it have over traditional pacemakers?
🫀It is a pacemaker that has no wires, unlike traditional pacemakers
🫀Reduces chance of infection by 50%
🫀It is typically placed via catheter through the groin or another vein making it minimally invasive
🫀Requires no chest incision
🫀Is a great option for patients with limited venous access, prior infection history, current infection, or those on dialysis
🫀Can be a life-saving option for complex patients with complete blockages

We are thrilled to have had the ability and talented Cariology and Cath Lab teams to make this procedure a reality for a patient in need and for our rural facility right here in Dublin-Laurens County!

There is no doubt in our minds that the groundbreaking work done last week was a life-changing and saving procedure for a patient in need of this specific device.

To Dr. Brock, welcome to the team, Fairview Park Hospital, and Dublin-Laurens County! We are blessed and excited to partner with you as you begin to care for our community. You have made an impactful and incredible first impression with our team and with our community!

To our Cardiology and Cath Lab staff, thank you for your flexibility and always being able to respond in-the-moment to patients in need. You are a phenomenal team!

And thank you to HCA Healthcare for investing in our local hospital in such a way that allows us to say “YES” to big moves for our patients. Your willingness to say yes to us, in turn, allows us to say yes to those in critical need in our community. We are proud to show up for our community every day as HCA!

Three generations of Boles men 👨🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️👶🏼

Two of those doctors, one of them a little dreamer with endless opportunity ahead!

Matthew Boles, MD, attended our surgical robot showcase this week, along with his family and new baby boy, John Robert.

It was more than special because he stood in that same exact place 15 years ago when he attended a surgical robot showcase with his dad as a high school student.

This week he stood there as a local OB/GYN and surgeon, returning home to Dublin-Laurens County to serve his community through women’s care!

“Being back at Fairview has really felt like a homecoming for me. I can remember coming to one of these robot showcases with my dad when I was in high school. It feels full circle now that I’m back as a physician performing surgeries using the robot, and really puts all the pieces together showing just how valuable these kinds of opportunities are for our community. We’ve had kids from our local schools come through and I can’t help but think about a younger me, wondering which one of them will be the next doctor coming back home to Fairview - and to be witnessing this next to my dad while holding my son is truly special. Three generations all in one place. I’ll support John Robert in whatever he chooses to pursue, but maybe, if I’m lucky, he’ll want to be a doctor like his Dad and Grandpa.” -Dr. Matthew Boles, FPH Robotic Surgeon

Just over three months ago, Dr. Matthew Boles and his wife, Kate, were welcoming their son John Robert on Fairview’s Women’s Services unit alongside the same people Dr. Boles delivers his patient’s babies with each and every day. Now, they’re here showing John Robert the ropes on all things surgery!

We realize just how special it is to have homegrown Dublin boys return back to our community to serve as major healthcare providers, and we are just so grateful and excited to welcome them back!

To Dr. Mark Boles and Dr. Matthew Boles, thank you for your investment in our community and for realizing the major need for talented providers in rural communities. We are grateful for you and how you serve our patients!

And to John Robert, we know you have lots of options, but OB/GYN sure is looking good right now! We hope to see you in our OR one day ❤️

What a day! 👏🏻

We have spent our day teaching kids, adults, and staff about all things surgical robot!

Local leadership, elementary students, parents, doctors, clinical staff, and ancillary staff all came, learned, and operated the surgical robot for themselves!

Our community learned:
•Robotic surgery is the best surgical option when available because of the benefits regarding pain management, length of stay in the hospital, and recovery times
•Surgeons are able to operate at the highest level of their ability with the surgical robot as an aid and resource
•Fairview currently houses a surgical robot and hopes to welcome a second robot in the near future!

Thank you so much to our surgeons, staff, and community for coming to learn about this valuable resource we provide at Fairview Park Hospital!

And, as always, thank you for being partners and supporters of your local hospital ❤️

“I’ve come a long way in this chair.”
-Samantha McArthur, Fairview ICU Patient

At just 27, Samantha McArthur went from living her normal day-to-day life to re-learning every aspect of her day-to-day life after a life-changing car crash that left her paralyzed.

After over three weeks in Fairview’s ICU, Samantha finally got approval from her doctor to do the one thing she has been yearning to do since she arrived - to go outside.

So, today, Samantha, along with her Physical Therapist, Jordan Miles, and her whole ICU crew did just that.

Hand-in-hand with Jordan, learning how she will best steer her wheelchair once she goes home, what speeds she can tolerate, and how she will navigate day-to-day mobility challenges, she is defying odds one day at a time.

What’s even more special - as her direct care team made their way downstairs, we turned around and a whole tribe of ICU and hospital staff who have formed special bonds during her time here were following right behind her and all around her.

Because no one takes on these journeys alone at Fairview. Family takes care of family.

And Samantha is family. She’s one of us. Her fight is our fight.

Check back in for a video of her celebratory stroll to the pond ❤️

Pioneering the latest in surgical care! 🏥

October 20, 2015:
Fairview performs its first robotic surgery - a gallbladder removal performed by General Surgeon, Dr. John Polhill

From scalpel to laparoscopic surgery - from laparoscopic to robotic-assisted, Dr. John Polhill was the first surgeon at Fairview Park Hospital to operate using a surgical robot in Fairview’s OR 11 years ago in 2015.

Alongside Dr. Chism, Dr. Mullis, and Dr. Gatliff, the employment of Fairview’s surgical robot opened the door for advancements in quality of surgical care across the board.

“It’s crazy to think we’ve been using the surgical robot for 11 years now at Fairview. We have definitely come a long way since then - completely renovated OR suites, more surgeons using the robot, and even new service lines breaking surgical ground here robotically. I touted how beneficial having the surgical robot was for both patients and surgeons back in 2015, but my appreciation and beliefs remain the same, and even stronger, in 2026. We are able to serve patients in a way that causes less pain, leads to less recovery time, and getting back home faster when we utilize this technology. I’m very proud to have been a pioneer in this venture for Fairview Park Hospital and Dublin-Laurens County, alongside amazing leadership and fellow physicians.”
-Dr. John Polhill, General Surgeon & Trauma Director

Since 2015, service lines have expanded, and new surgeons have established themselves at Fairview, broadening the scope of robotic opportunities. A win for our community!

We Now Offer:
•Robotic Weight Loss Surgery
•Dr. Blaney & Dr. Chung
•Robotic Women’s/Gynecologic Surgery
•Dr. Boles
•Robotic General Surgeries
•Dr. Polhill, Dr. Blaney, and Dr. Chung

The investment in this cutting edge technology also spurred growth and investment in the form of a $21M surgical service renovation and expansion, which encompassed renovating and expanding 7 OR suites, upgrading our team’s ORs to state-of-the-art surgical spaces.

That’s a lot to celebrate about! 🎉

To our former and current leadership, surgeons and physicians, OR staff, and Dr. Polhill, the first to break ground in this form of surgical care, thank you for your dedication and commitment to our staff, our patients, and our surgeons as we strive to leverage the latest and best technology to benefit those we serve!

Happy 11th birthday to our beloved surgical robot, Mona Lisa! 🎉

Protecting those who protect us 💪🏼

Fairview Park Hospital is proud to house a new, innovative piece of equipment that has ONE job:

To protect the Physicians and staff who are saving lives and serving our community each day by shielding them from the constant radiation they operate in.

Our Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiovascular Electrophysiologists, and Interventional Radiologist use our Cath Lab each day to perform live-saving procedures on patients in need of interventional heart and image-guided procedures.

Before employing this equipment, doctors and clinical staff had to wear multiple pieces of heavy, lead protective gear, such as aprons, collars, and skirts to keep them safe while performing procedures on their patients - which was also an enormous strain on their bodies and range of movement.

Now, our physicians and staff benefit from a movable lead-equivalent shield that allows them to operate efficiently and even more safely as it provides enhanced protection for the full body without having to don multiple pieces of lead outerwear!

This is such a win for our facility, specifically for our providers stepping behind the glass in our Cath Lab, exposing themselves to radiation for extended periods of time while saving lives!

To our doctors suiting up on the front lines every day, thank you for what you do to serve our patients and our community! We are honored to suit up and serve alongside you ❤️

You’ve got to be able to hustle for the muscle!🫀

If a stranger or loved one needed CPR, would you know what to do?

When panic sets in, many times our brains go into shock. For many, this can feel like numbness and exerting extreme mental energy to gather your thoughts to execute a survival plan!

Be confident in your ability to perform CPR and save a life! Let’s learn using the graphic and steps below!

HOW TO PERFORM CPR:
🫀Check the scene for safety
•Are you in oncoming traffic?
•Do you need to relocate the person to a safer area?
🫀Are they responsive?
•Are they breathing or bleeding?
🫀Use the “Tap-Shout-Tap” method to check their responsiveness
•Tap them and shout to see if they respond
🫀Call 911 if they cannot respond
•Call 911 if they’re not breathing or are gasping
🫀Prepare to perform CPR
•Kneel next to them
•Ensure they are on their back on a firm surface
🫀Perform 100-120 compressions per minute
•Perform 30 compressions at a time
🫀Give 2 breaths
•Tilt chin and head up, pinch nose shut, and create a seal over the mouth allowing the chest to rise
🫀Begin next 30 compressions and repeat breaths

Heart attacks occur approximately every 40 seconds in the United States. Make sure you know how to perform CPR and the services offered at your local hospital!
