Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., and risk increases as we age, making coordinated care especially important for seniors and their families. (source-CDC)

Love Looks Like Care!
Love isn’t just romantic.
Love is checking in.
Love is remembering appointments.
Love is warm hugs that say “you’re not alone.”
Love is making sure medications aren’t missed.
Love is showing up on ordinary days.
Love is listening, even when the story has been told before.
Love is helping someone stay independent, safely, at home.
This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the quiet kind of love.
The kind that looks like care.

The Healing Power of a Hug
Hugs matter more than we realize.
For older adults, a hug can mean comfort, reassurance, and connection. It can lower stress, ease loneliness, and remind someone they are seen and cared for. In senior care, these small moments of human connection often make the biggest difference.
A gentle hug can say “you’re safe,” “you’re not alone,” and “I’m here” without a single word.
Care isn’t just about appointments and support plans.
It’s also about warmth, trust, and human touch.
Sometimes, the most powerful care comes in the form of a hug. 🤍
At Omatochi, we believe care is personal.
We support seniors not just with services, but with compassion, dignity, and meaningful human connection every day.

More Than an Expo: A Morning of Care and Connection
Our Aging Well Expo at Belle Haven Community Center brought together seniors, caregivers, providers, and community leaders for a morning centered on access, education, and coordinated care. Hosted by Omatochi in collaboration with the Urban League of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, the event fostered meaningful connection and community.
The program opened with Deka D**e, CEO of Omatochi, alongside Ken Maxey of the Urban League Bay Area, setting a collaborative tone. Attendees connected with providers, explored resources, joined Omatochi’s signature banana dance, and celebrated Ken Maxey’s birthday with seniors.
We’re grateful for the leadership of Supervisor Lisa Gauthier, whose support helped make the Expo inclusive and accessible, and to Belle Haven Community Center, Rondell, Tony, and their team for hosting and event support.
Highlights included a CalAIM Provider Panel with Camille Cooley (Kaiser Permanente), Bella Bunkers (Mom’s Meals), and Enoc Bermudez (Omatochi), plus a Financial Fraud Prevention session by Alex Cadenas from the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. Thank you to BluePath Health and the Omatochi team for making it all possible.
This is what community looks like.
This is what aging well looks like.

Black History Month asks us to remember who came before us. But it also asks us a harder question: “How are we caring for them now?”
Black elders carry our history in their stories, sacrifices, and resilience. Honoring them means more than remembrance. It means showing up with dignity, staying connected, and ensuring they are cared for with the respect they deserve.

Why Culturally Competent Care Matters
Care is more than completing tasks. It is about understanding, respect, and trust.
Culturally competent care means recognizing a person’s language, traditions, values, and lived experiences. When seniors feel understood and respected, they are more comfortable asking for help, following care plans, and staying engaged in their own well-being.
For many older adults, culture influences food choices, communication styles, family roles, and how care is received. When care reflects these needs, it leads to better health outcomes, stronger relationships, and a greater sense of dignity.
At Omatochi, we believe care should feel personal, familiar, and respectful. That is why culturally competent care is at the heart of how we support seniors and their families every day.
